Job Description

- Contract Type: Full-time fixed term (2 years’ contract with annual renewal thereafter)

We are seeking a college counselor to work in a very successful high school program in Ningbo. College counselors work with high school 10th 11th and 12th grade students who are preparing to graduate and enter postsecondary educational institutions. They help with nearly every aspect of matriculation, from recommending the best colleges for an individual to help that person complete applications and submit financial aid forms. Some college counselors may also advise students on their academic strengths and weaknesses or career choices.

Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in education counseling or a related field.
- Work Experience in a Related Occupation: Preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and of the Center Liaison Officer (CLO), the college counselor will coordinate and direct all aspects of college placement and career guidance services. This includes the following:
1. Meet with individual students and parents regarding post-high school placement.
2. Publish relevant information regarding post-high school placement (dates of college admissions tests, scholarships, etc.)
3. Conduct college and career guidance advisory groups. Inform students and parents of college options and provide resources so that families can make the best possible decision.
4. Facilitate students’ college application processes.
5. Create a calendar and schedule college workshops and information sessions. Give workshops on college-level curriculum, activities, college research, college essay writing, test-taking skills, scholarship information, etc., in advisory meetings.
6. Help students identify their strengths and the relevance of these attributes to their future.
7. Develop and update college counseling publications distributed to students and families dealing with all aspects of the college admissions process, financial aid, test-taking practices, and other topics.

Other Responsibilities:
1. Ensure high quality delivery of the standardized college counseling program in a timely manner.
2. Serve as the case manager for each student and monitor the student’s academic progress. Hold comprehensive counseling sessions with each designated tenth- and twelfth-grade student.
3. Meet with 10th and 11th graders regularly to discuss issues pertaining to students’ futures (careers, college selection).
4. Initiate parent contact when appropriate.
5. Maintain detailed counseling records for designated students including college application information, scholarships applied, college acceptance and scholarships received.
6. Prepare reports and analyzes data on courses and credits eligibility, college acceptance statistics and scholarships received by students.
7. Create and maintain a tracking system for students after they graduate from high school.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
1. Candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively and should actively look for ways to help students. Candidate often works with people who are dealing with stressful and difficult situations, so he/she must be compassionate and empathize with their clients and students.
3. Being able to work with different types of people is essential for counselors as they spend most of their time working directly with clients and students.
4. Candidates should have strong logic and reasoning skills, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Candidate should also be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
5. Candidates should understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
