Job Description
We're looking for a team-oriented leader, who is also a well-organized and creative multi-tasker that has a background in journalism.

This is your chance to lead Dongguan’s oldest and largest English publication into the future of media.

Job Summary

Primarily responsible for the editorial direction, coordination and content of the magazine by conceptualizing/planning issues, researching, writing and editing articles, working with freelancers, proofing issues, and collecting/coordinating photography and photo shoots.

Blogging and social media knowledge is also required, along with maintaining a professional presence in the local community.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Envisioning, developing, and editing all editorial content for digital and print publications
• Submitting an editorial lineup to the Editor-in-Chief with story details for each print issue
• Assigning freelance stories and developing their drafts to ensure timely receipt and quality standards
• Assisting Art Director by pitching art concept ideas and obtaining photos for all stories
• Writing photo captions, decks, and other editorial pieces as needed at layout stage
• Assisting with the final layout of the magazine by proofing and correcting preliminary InDesign documents of each layout, cutting or adding copy where needed, and filling in cutlines and drop quotes
• Submitting an editorial accounting form to the Editor-in-Chief indicating rate, writer name and article summary of freelance assignments within 7 days of each issue publication
• Appear at community events as a key representative for HERE! Dongguan and its affiliated products and publications
• Assist with writing and editing of content on PartyHERE (HERE! Media’s event platform)

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and editing abilities, including creating engaging and entertaining articles
• Solid knowledge of journalism, including style and formatting of magazine articles, interviewing, fact checking and copy editing
• Attention to detail, including correct usage of grammar and punctuation according to AP Stylebook
• Experienced user of Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT)
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with little to no supervision
• Proficient multi-tasker who can work on a wide range of projects and assignments
• Understanding and regular user of social media (e.g. WeChat, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Credentials and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related
• Three or more years’ employment at a magazine or newspaper, or equivalent combination of internships and experience
• Community awareness
• Organizational skills
