A global traveling & entertainment online Media company is looking for a China GM.

What you'll do in the role:

Build the business in China including supporting the establishment of the company in the mainland market. Set up each department, hiring an exceptional team of talented people to run the business and ready the company for rapid scaling to a 100+ people organisation. Ensure the culture and approach of the existing business is successfully replicated in and adapted for China recruitment and operations. You will have access to an initial budget of $30m, with a view to add if successful. You will be the key liaison between the Chinese operation and the rest of the business outside of China, working closely with the departments leads in each of the existing departments. You will take learnings and best practice from the rest of the business to be replicated in the Chinese operations and vice versa. You should expect to travel when necessary to the other company offices in London, New York, LA or Hong Kong.

Help steer the company's strategic approach to China based on your knowledge and experience in the Chinese market. Oversee and drive the growth of the business, it's audience and product development. Set strategic priorities with the heads of each department, steer the team and drive achievement of goals. Establish the commercial strategy and sales approach.

Be the outward facing lead for the business in China, the ambassador for the company in all public forums - promote, eulogise and raise awareness of the company and its products.

Develop business connections and strategic opportunities with local Chinese companies. Liaise with regulators / government departments where needed. You will be required to liaise with investors, the board etc on matters related to the China operation.



The kind of person we're looking for:

You should have an exceptional track record, with at least 10-15 years of experience in top Chinese companies in relevant tech / (social) media / travel industries, working in fast-growing environments and leading exceptional teams. You should have built and scaled first class teams before in China, and be comfortable working internationally across offices in multiple time zones.

You will have the energy and drive to launch a new operation from scratch, albeit with significant support, resources and established ways of working from the wider operations. You will need to be quick to understand the way the current business works and the approach we take / culture we have. You should speak Mandarin to a native level, and be at least an advanced level English speaker (preferably bilingual).

You will have a deep knowledge of the Chinese consumer, and of the tech and media industries in which we will be operating. Expertise and track record in running a company. You should have a strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory landscape, and an extensive network / connections across relevant industries.

You'll need to be an inspiring leader who can mobilise people. You should be a confident presenter and communicator. You'll be empathetic and have exceptional soft-skills be able to listen and be flexible / adaptable, but also comfortable to be direct and candid when required. You should be a strong decision maker, calm, composed, unflappable, able to deal with the gamut of issues that arise in fast growing organisations.

You should be a team builder, able to design and establish an effective structure and grow / hire a team of top class people, with an excellent network to draw from. You should be able to grow and develop the individuals in your own team as well as more senior leaders in other teams.

You should be highly organised and able to hold in your mind details from a number of different areas simultaneously, be able to effectively prioritise, be adaptable, agile,and have a strong action-bias. You should be an exceptional executor.
