Job Description

Health Advances is seeking a full-time Information Specialist to join the Knowledge Management team to support client growth by identifying critical data and information resources, conducting secondary research for business development and project teams, and helping to build our proprietary knowledge base. The candidate will focus largely on China, Japan and Korea. Experience in one or more healthcare areas (biopharma, medtech, diagnostics & life science tools, healthcare services, health IT, health economics, market access) is strongly preferred. The position is based in Hong Kong. The successful candidate will be the only Information Specialist in the newly-established Hong Kong office, but will work closely with colleagues in the USA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with project and business development teams, assisting with data and literature research
    • Respond to requests by creatively surveying both Health Advances' internal holdings as well as external resources such as government databases, including specialized databases and search tools and the Internet
    • Using in-depth knowledge of industry sources, proactively advise project teams of resources that may be helpful to complete specific projects
    • Provide ongoing support for business development activities, including target identification and proposal development
  • Proactively build Health Advances’ knowledge base, including the following:
    • On an ongoing basis, identify, evaluate, and document external resources for use by project and business development teams, focusing on key areas of healthcare in countries in Asia, particularly China, Japan, and Korea
    • Identify opportunities to develop and implement new knowledge products and services for the Hong Kong team
    • Support information, data, and resource discovery by describing and tagging both internal and external content
  • Work with HA Knowledge Services in Weston as part of a seamless team to address the spectrum of information and knowledge needs of Health Advances staff
  • Perform other duties as required, including dissemination of current awareness materials and training

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the healthcare industry, preferably corporate information services, marketing, business development, or knowledge management; the ideal candidate will have a total of 5+ years of work experience
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English plus either Mandarin, Korean, and/or Japanese is required. Mandarin is preferred.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis in medical/clinical, technical/scientific and/or business areas
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare industry resources in Asia, including data and statistics, business, and clinical materials
    • Experience with a variety of healthcare resources in both native Asian languages and in English
    • Experience evaluating information resources and vendors
    • Experience constructing creative and effective search strategies for the Internet and for private databases
  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science, or equivalent education and experience is a plus
  • Undergraduate degree in healthcare-related field a plus (e.g., biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering)
  • Self-motivated, creative, and proactive, with the ability to see the big picture as well as the supporting details
  • Strong customer service orientation and demonstrated ability to exercise creativity in resolving customers’ information needs
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), time management, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to work as a solo practitioner, and also to team with geographically dispersed colleagues

Key Relationships

  • Reports to Chief Knowledge Officer, with dotted line to Hong Kong office head
  • Works closely with Hong Kong consulting and office staff, HA Library Services team, and Chief Knowledge Officer
  • Interacts regularly with project teams, business development teams, and all levels of consulting and functional staff

Requirements

  • Must be on site (i.e., not working remotely)
