Atlas EducationBeijingUpdate time: May 18,2019
Job Description
北京市

Atlas Education is a truly unique education organisation that runs our innovative learning centre, The Tree, and equally innovative fledgling education consultancy, Venture Education, from our awesome space in northern Beijing. We are a dedicated team of sixty international education specialists who place empathy, communication and quality firmly at the core of everything we do. Our motley crew are some of the smartest, most hard-working, interesting and positive people on the planet and we really love our jobs.

The Tree: We help Chinese students to transition from traditional education into international schools. We are very good at what we do. Aside from the academics, and improving English, a lot of our work is around behaviour for learning and developing two of the most vital skills for happiness and success: curiosity and agency. We work incredibly hard with our inclusive student body to make sure that working hard becomes only part of what school-work means to them: reading becomes a pleasure, classes becomes something you run to school for and an essay question that starts “what do you think about…?” fills your head with ideas. We help students get into the best international schools in Beijing and we’re pretty sure that we change their lives along the way. We also have a programme called Flight that helps students in the French School to apply to UK universities.

Aside from the teaching and learning at the core of what we do, we’re also pretty…woke. We run a literature journal for teenagers called InkBeat and an outdoor education programme called BFS. We have women’s officer and recently signed the British Embassy’s Pledge for Progress on gender equality. We also have a social impact committee that works with six NGOs including one we started ourselves that supports a village in Fujian without access to formal education. Mondays are meatless and we have a lot of social events. We enthusiastically endorse the golden twin tenets of all good karaoke: no talent; no shame.

We need consultants who can help students move towards their goals (but keep it interesting along the way), get involved with anything and feel inspired and excited by regularly changing tack, working together as a close and adaptable community and moving fast. Current team members have done courses on project management and child safety (supported by the organisation), are co-chairs of the young professionals committee for the British Chamber, run a fashion blog, speak at toastmasters, do improv around Asia, organise regular Beijing vs Shanghai video game event and volunteer for Start Up Grind and local charities supporting migrant worker children and orphans.

Venture Education: The consultancy arm of our organisation works primarily in UK-China education, entrepreneurship and employability. In the past year this has included running a hackathon before Theresa May’s 2018 visit, organising an education fair in the British Ambassador’s garden and writing research reports for the British Chamber of Commerce and the UK’s Department for International Trade. We’ve also taught entrepreneurship in North Korea, run a pub quiz with the British Embassy Outreach team in Xian and we’re heading to Mongolia in September for an education day in Ulaan Baatar in partnership with the embassy, ambassador and a British MP.

You can probably find better-paid jobs in China teaching English or copyediting, or you can work for a bigger company stapling photocopies together, but if you are creative, quirky, driven and you want to be part of a genuinely amazing international team who daily embrace what living in Beijing in the 21st century is truly all about: welcome to Atlas Education.
