Job Overview

  • Manages and leads the team in their location, ensuring minimal attrition, full team engagement and creativity to bring out the best in their direct line reports.
  • Displays an understanding of complex team dynamics to ensure the ER team grows, gets stronger and manages change effectively.

  • Exercises leadership, discretionary authority, a high level of creativity, negotiation, investigative, analytical capability with the overall aim of to providing solutions.
  • Instrumental in the development of an Employee Relations (ER) framework, including strategies and proposals to drive improved ER practice within the organization based on trust, mutual respect, strong performance management, and accountability in support of the goals of the organization.
  • Oversees and ensures case management is handled fairly, consistently, transparently, in a timely fashion, and in line with Company policies, procedures, and appropriate local and federal law.
  • Provides expert advice to resolve sensitive, high risk complex issues regarding employee and leader relations.
  • Takes the lead in addressing employee issues, complaints, and investigations, working in partnership with Legal, Management, and other Human Resources staff.
  • Works in collaboratively with internal HR partners to develop and integrate the delivery of ER related learning and talent development interventions to strengthen the leadership capabilities of the organization.
  • Manages, maintains, and revises policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance, enhance the workplace and promote the company culture.
  • Provides oversight to or personally leads employee investigations, making recommendations on appropriate courses of action, matching investigation strategy to the complexity, risk, sensitivity, and confidentiality of the investigation.
  • Actively promotes and contributes diversity management efforts.
  • Counsels HR and business leaders on compliance issues, trends and risks to foster sound business decisions.
  • Responds to complex requests for interpretation of policy.
  • Assesses HR compliance risk in coordination with HR leadership and Legal based on the current regulatory landscape and anticipated changes.
  • Provides assistance to design and implement a communications strategy to promote HR compliance and awareness throughout the organization.
  • Delivers business focused upskilling/training requirements, advises on training content and collaborates with Learning & Development as needed.
  • Promotes fairness, transparency and consistency across the enterprise, this position manages, maintains, and regularly updates the Case Management System to ensure comprehensive capture of case information.
  • Acts as advisor to leaders, both HR and Business, on how to handle more serious and complex employee relations matters.
  • Serves as the HR contact to assess communications received through the LabCorp/Covance Global Ethics and Global Compliance Action Line (Alert Line) and represents HR to rapidly review, evaluate, and respond to employee concerns.
  • Advises HR and business leaders on complex matters that may require investigation, and engages third-parties when necessary.
  • Provides support and guidance regarding enterprise acquisitions adhering to local employment law regulations and best practice in order to facilitate smooth transfer of employees.
  • Provides upskilling for HRBP in changes to employment law.
  • Undertakes protected conversations as required in order to meet business needs where appropriate and legal.
  • Leads and contributes to enterprise wide project teams.
  • Leads and participates in collaborative projects with Centers of Excellence.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of all compliance activities and communications which are conducted to support corporate and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Monitors and prepares detailed dashboard reports on ER activities and other topics as needed. Interprets and alerts the business to trends and patterns.
  • Keeps abreast of employment laws in relevant geographic areas to minimize risk of potential legal and financial consequences of non-compliance.
  • Drives best practices to ensure efficient and effective management, oversight and resolution of employment matters.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

Education/Qualifications

Minimum Required:

Level of education required (or experience level which may be substituted for level of education).
Professional designations/certifications/licenses required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required or equivalent years of experience.
  • Significant experience in Human Resources with demonstrated experience in Employee Relations.
  • Preferred experience in managing others.

Experience

  • Hands-on experience leading Employee Relations (ER) activities with proven ability to develop high service levels for managers and employees.
  • Expert knowledge of Employee Relations theory, practice, policies, and procedures - as well as sufficient capability in research and trend analysis to remain current in the field.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Asia Pacific employment laws, and an appreciation of the equivalent international laws.
  • Excellent functional knowledge in other HR disciplines beyond Employee Relations.
  • Experience working in a Human Resources function with a shared service delivery and strategic business partner model preferred.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex and highly sensitive work-related issues using keen negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Clear ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate both within HR and to a broader organization.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, consulting, and analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Experience in a multinational matrix environment preferred
  • Fluency in English required, knowledge of additional languages (eg. Japanese) would be useful as needed.
  • Advanced research and critical thinking skills; able to gather information, identify trends, draw valid conclusions and propose actionable recommendations.
  • Global cultural orientation and working experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a professional and diplomatic demeanor.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation.
  • Proficient in using standard office software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook as well as capability in an HR/ER Information System.

  • Flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding judgment and mature business skills with the ability to establish a strong rapport and respect all staff regardless of level.
  • Ability to build relationships, establish credibility and exert influence across multiple functions and at all organizational levels.
  • Self-starter and able to manage own workload and complete complex projects from beginning to end.
  • Ability to lead in complex, unclear and stressful situations.
  • Desire to thrive in complex matrix environment and build buy-in through partnerships.
Excellent relationship building skills in order to effectively utilize resources such as Legal, coworkers, and Internet research as needed.
