The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a Global Transportation Manager.


Reporting directly to this position are, International Transportation Operations Manager, Regional Transportation Operations Managers and Transportation Outbound Distribution manager.
This position is accountable for development and execution of the overall strategy in the Transportation area, impacting the entire Enterprise.

Develop the strategy and ensure successful execution of the realignment of current supplier base. Work to consolidate and secure suppliers enabling Caterpillar to leverage greater buying power.


Responsible for overall organization and management of transportation services, development of logistics strategy and service requirements, administration and management of claims, and Sarbanes Oxley requirements, service parts transportation flows and nodes, prime product transportation flows and nodes, and inbound to Caterpillar factory product flows.

Manage, through its leadership team, a global workforce of 345 plus management and salaried transportation experts and an extended network of service providers. The global organization will be on virtually all Cat Inc. sites and manages a globally diverse team with personnel in Brazil, India, Mexico, China, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Europe, the United States, and Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, Middle East responsible for transportation services provided to all regions. Provide direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates. Responsible for all personnel issues, employee engagement and culture, Cat values, and performance management of subordinates.


Develop, document and execute a global transportation strategy for Caterpillar and PSLD - Our current transport function has evolved out of a traffic-purchasing group and has developed into a key supply chain function to support Caterpillars Supply Chain initiatives for velocity, quality and cost. Transportation responds to scale and systems, so the incumbent must define and assure adequate information systems and business processes are in place to support a move to supply chain management at an effective cost/ quality ratio.
Carrier contract administration – Responsible for the development of a carrier base to support roughly $2.5 billion transportation spend. Scope is global, and includes all transportation modes – air, ocean, rail, and truck as well as related services of freight forwarding and customs compliances supporting inbound and outbound shipments to Cat Inc. facilities. Products transported include indirect materials; components inbound to manufacturing or assembly operations, parts for aftermarket, and finished products. Responsibilities also include equipment processing centers that serve as a method of product postponement to better serve our dealers. Also includes transportation management of over $350 million of freight for Caterpillar dealers.


Transportation management systems - Responsible for the maintenance of existing transportation systems as well as the strategic development of the enhanced transportation service offering systems requiring the expense of $20M or more annually, along with Cap Ex consistent with replacing amortization and supporting new initiatives, ($10M+ Annually).


Manage transportation nodes - This position will evolve into the management and oversight of numerous carrier based cross docks, yard management, container management, and asset routing between nodes.


Typical internal customers include director and vice president levels throughout Caterpillar worldwide and its subsidiaries. External contacts include various customers and vendors, usually at the Executive Vice President level, throughout worldwide markets.


The position often confronts complex issues or problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are mostly unique and solutions can require highly innovative or original approaches not being currently utilized within Caterpillar or the industry. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent establishes and then monitors performance goals, general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met and desired results are achieved.

The position is required to travel frequently (50%); up to two weeks each month.


Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.


Qualifications


Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • 15 + years of progressively responsible job-related experience
  • Experience leading logistics management
  • Experience in order to delivery, inventory management, purchasing and/or parts distribution

  • Strong leadership, communication, strategic vision and strong analytical skills
  • Global Transportation experience leading teams with different cultures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
