Job Description

Position Summary

NYU Shanghai Library is seeking an enthusiastic Digital Media Specialist to join our Research and Instructional Technology Services (RITS) unit. Embedded in the NYU Shanghai Library, this unit supports technology integration in teaching, learning and research at NYU Shanghai. The unit also works closely with its counterparts in NYU New York and NYU Abu Dhabi.


The specialist will be responsible for production and post-production of a range of instructional digital content modules for both online and blended learning. Responsibilities include development of instructional design modules and content in collaboration with faculty across the university, with a focus on the NYU Shanghai Open Mini-Course project.


The main responsibilities include:


  • Plan production and post production of instructional digital modules, including recording, editing and management of video content and workflows, using latest equipment and software, including Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, 4K video.

  • Create animation and multimedia workflows towards the enhancement of teaching and learning.

  • Liaise with faculty, students, and researchers in the development, production and post-production of instructional digital media for online learning.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise, deal with multiple stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Assist NYU Shanghai in developing digital media workflows, process’ and strategies for online learning, with an emphasis on the use of current and emerging technology and techniques including day-to-day use of multimedia equipment, lighting, editing and innovative software components, such as in-video assessment and video annotation, animation.

  • Evaluate current instructional digital technologies and trends relevant to online learning and make recommendations for studio hardware and software.

  • Deliver training in media tools and services. Identify, analyze, and evaluate training needs.

  • Arrange facilities and materials as required.

  • Manage video content, equipment, studio materials.

  • Keep up-to-date with instructional standards of quality, timeliness, and satisfaction.

  • Work under tight deadlines throughout the day, handling multiple projects.

  • May need to work on weekend and evenings.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Stay current of trends in emerging digital scholarship technologies, tools, and methodologies

  • Maintain good knowledge of existing work, projects, best practices, conferences, in support of merging media technologies.

  • Ensure technical competence through ongoing professional development.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualification
Required Education
  • Undergraduate degree (Masters preferred) in a related field or 1-2 years experience in relevant institution in instructional design or video / digital media production role.


Required Experience

  • Experience working with end users, preferably in an media related environment.

  • Expertise with Adobe Premiere, Final Cut X, Photoshop & Illustrator, After Effects.

  • Experience in the production of motion graphics and digital animation e.g. Adobe After Effects or similar tools.

  • Working knowledge of codecs and compression techniques.

  • Practical experience in editing of digital media using a range of post-production tools.

  • Experience in supporting tools, services and projects within a digital production workflow.

  • Portfolio of relevant work or examples required during application.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good problem solving skills and time management skills.

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.

  • Familiarity with innovative use of video and digital production technology and methodologies in the creation of online resources.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international and cross- cultural environment.

  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, researchers, and staff.

  • Well organized, diplomatic, detail and service oriented.

  • Ability to working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to learn and explore new and emerging technologies.

  • Self-starter who is flexible, creative, and open to new challenges.
