Our head office is located in Vancouver, Canada, our manufacturing base is in Shenzhen, China, and we have a team working remotely from their home offices in over 15 cities across North America and Europe.

Job Description

Panda is currently seeking a General Manager for our China operations. Our headquarters are in Shenzhen, China (40 staff), and we have a branch office in Hangzhou, China (7 staff). The main functions of our China operations are:

  • Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Production & Schedule Oversight
  • Quality Control
  • Shipping

This position reports to the CEO and COO and requires regular communication in English with our North American and European client-facing teams and in Chinese with our partners and suppliers in China.

The main responsibilities are:

  • Manage a team of over 40 sourcing and production management professionals in two offices - creating the strategy and executing the business plan
  • Connect our North American & European client-facing teams, our Chinese sourcing team, and our suppliers
  • Coordinate with Chinese government departments
  • Recruit, train, and coach staff to develop a happy, efficient, and cohesive team
  • Support our client-facing teams in North America and Europe
  • Ensure quotations from suppliers are competitive so that our sales team can win profitable projects
  • Manage our partners and suppliers to ensure that the components produced are in line with our clients' requirements and specifications
  • Choose the appropriate logistics suppliers to ensure our goods are delivered in a timely and effective manner
  • Appraise our suppliers' performance and conduct factory audits
  • Maintain good relationships with our key suppliers and be involved directly in negotiation with suppliers
  • Develop effective tax planning; comply with all Chinese regulatory requirement including taxation and customs.
  • Drive continuous innovations, productivity and quality improvements of the entire trading and sourcing process
  • Identify, evaluate and manage risks by implementing procedures on the operation
  • Negotiate on behalf of our parent company with minority shareholders

Attributes and Experience

Requirements:

  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Mandarin
  • Fully bi-cultural with the ability to deal professionally in both North American and Chinese work environments
  • A professional manager who can plan, organize, direct and control staff in a Chinese setting
  • An excellent people manager who can gain commitment from his staff and provide effective coaching
  • A seasoned negotiator who can negotiate effectively with senior Chinese and North American business partners
  • University Degree with a preference for majors in Business Administration, Commerce or Foreign Trade. Preference for a University degree from an English-speaking country.
  • Knowledge of Finance, Chinese Taxation/Customs Regulations, Foreign Trade, and Business Administration
  • Minimum of 15 years of related working experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as General Manager of a team of at least 45 persons in a related business.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing operation in China. Preference for experience in a printing factory.
  • Proven track record in quality management, operation management, project management, production management or supply chain management
  • Proven track record in building a high performing trading, import/export business
  • Technologically savvy
  • Preference for a person with strong interest in playing Board Games.
  • Compensation commensurate with qualification and experience.

Position Details

Job Location: Work from our factory in Shenzhen, China, with occasional business travel to Hong Kong. Infrequent business travel to North America or Europe (1-3 times per year) may be required.

Start date: Flexible based on your current employment situation, although we'd like to have someone start by mid-July.
