Job Description
Responsibilities:

  • Work with technology and business unit leadership to deploy effective IP portfolio strategy; be responsible for the full patent lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with the technology team through all phases of new technology development; participate from early phase to scout and evaluate invention ideas; provide IP input to identify valuable invention ideas and drive them to strong IP asset.
  • Review invention disclosures and coordinate patenting decisions.
  • Initiate and manage patentability search and analysis, right to use, and state of the art patent searches.
  • Liaise with inventors and counsel to draft, file, and prosecute patent applications, and perform patent right to use analysis.
  • Work with outside counsel in performing IP clearance/FTO for products and technologies; be able to conduct systematic internal patent and structure search and analysis for such IP clearance/FTO purposes.
  • Maintain regular IP surveillance including landscape search and analysis in related technology fields to drive strategic discussions.
  • Protects the intellectual properties of the company, including but not limited to, effectively dealing with and responding to infringers, maintaining rights domestically and internationally and other actions as may be necessary.
  • Participate in reviewing intellectual property rights in a range of business agreements or in licensing transactions.
  • Be a driving force in communicating and advocating the exploitation of intellectual property asset value across business.


Qualifications:

  • Preferred Education: Graduate degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related fields or J. D.
  • 5+ years of experience with intellectual property matters, including prosecution, counselling, and portfolio management.
  • Experience or training in patent, licensing and trademark laws
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international intellectual property laws
  • Proficient in patent and structure database search and hits analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, and ability to work effectively with multiple groups/departments (R&D, senior management, internal and external legal teams etc.)
