Job Title: Social Studies Teacher

Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and qualified Social Studies Teacher to deliver engaging and comprehensive social studies education across primary and secondary levels. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore historical, geographical, cultural, economic, and political systems, develop analytical and interpretive skills, and cultivate an understanding and appreciation of both local and global societies. This role requires adaptability to teach within different school curricula while maintaining high standards of academic inquiry and expression.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, inquiry-based lessons in Social Studies aligned with the school’s international curriculum (e.g., IB PYP/MYP/DP, IGCSE, A-Level, AP History/Geography/Economics, or a standards-based international framework).
Teach a wide range of social studies concepts—including but not limited to history, geography, civics, economics, and cultural studies—tailored to various age groups and proficiency levels, using relevant real-world examples and case studies.
Foster a creative, inclusive, and stimulating classroom atmosphere where every student feels encouraged to participate actively, explore perspectives, and develop their own critical viewpoints.
Integrate diverse historical narratives, contemporary global issues, and critical thinking exercises into the curriculum, exposing students to varied cultural, political, and social contexts.
Develop students’ abilities to analyze sources, interpret data, construct arguments, and conduct research through projects, presentations, debates, and written assignments.
Manage teaching resources effectively, including textbooks, digital tools, maps, and primary/secondary sources, ensuring an organized and intellectually engaging learning environment.
Organize and showcase student learning outcomes within the school community and contribute actively to school-wide humanities-related events, competitions, or extracurricular clubs/activities.
Differentiate instruction to meet the varied learning needs, interests, and language proficiencies of students in a bilingual/multilingual setting.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Humanities department and across other subject areas to promote interdisciplinary learning projects (e.g., with Literature, Science, Arts).
Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress, project outcomes, and academic achievements.
Participate actively in professional development, faculty meetings, and school initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in History, Geography, Social Sciences, Education, or a closely related field (Master’s degree preferred).
A recognized teaching qualification/certification (e.g., PGCE, teaching license, QTS).
Minimum of 2–3 years of successful classroom teaching experience in Social Studies, preferably within an international K–12 school setting.
Strong proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is essential. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is a significant advantage for collaboration and communication in the bilingual context.
A comprehensive portfolio or evidence demonstrating solid subject matter expertise and excellent teaching practice (e.g., sample lesson/unit plans, student work examples, teaching reflections).
Deep knowledge of social studies disciplines, research methodologies, and current global affairs.
Familiarity with one or more international social studies/humanities curricula and assessment practices.
Excellent communication, intercultural competence, and collaboration skills.
