Main activities:

• Assist children in the use of resources, especially on playing musical instruments.
• Maintain children’s interests and motivation during class time.
• Support individual and group work assigned by the teacher in raising core skills.
• To be aware of children’s problems, achievements, progress and report on these to the teacher as agreed.
• Lead Toddler, Nursery and Reception music teaching sessions.
• Deputise in leading Year 1 and 2 teaching sessions when the Music teacher is involved with extra-curricular commitments.
• Supervise and establish a constructive relationship with the children and provide particular support for children, including those with individual needs.
• Provide feedback to children in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher.
• Assist children, on an occasional basis, with personal hygiene routines.
• Provide support for learning activities by making a contribution to supporting the teacher in the planning and evaluation of learning activities and supporting the delivery of learning activities.
• Making a contribution to organising effective learning environments.
• Monitor children’s responses to learning activities and alter schemes of work or lesson plans as necessary.
• Provide regular feedback to teachers on children’s achievement, progress and problems.
• Promote good behavior, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and reporting in line with school policy.
• Establish constructive relationships with parents.
• Support the use of musical instruments in learning activities and develop children’s competence and independence in its use.
• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
• Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
• Attend and participate in relevant wider Music departmental and whole school meetings as required.
• Assist with preparation for rehearsals across the College Music department.
• Contribute to, support and attend extra-curricular events.
• Accept reasonable flexibility in working arrangements.
• Develop supportive and safe learning environments.
• Undertake any responsible request made by the Line Manager that ensures consistent delivery of service to the College (including emergency Bus Monitor cover duty where required).
• Other assigned work as necessary.

• Comfortable teaching music to very young children in a safe, yet fun environment.
• Competent piano skills are preferable.
• A knowledge of Chinese instruments and the Chinese music tradition.
