Principal Duties/Responsibilities

¨ Coordinate the efforts of standardization in the region in parallel with the company’s objectives to achieve operational excellence in our Laboratory Network.

¨ Ensure the implementation and maintenance of corporate policy & procedures.

¨ To provide advice and support to ensure implementation and compliance with HSEQ policy, objectives, programmes and management systems.

¨ Achieve business unit budget objectives in terms of operating profit margin, revenue, operating expenditure and capital equipment utilisation.

¨ Review lab facilities and justify/budget for continuous improvement. Improve lab staff and supervisory organisation with objective of improving efficiency, service quality performance and delivery focus.

¨ Provide regular reports to senior management on the capability and serviceability of equipment and instrumentation in the laboratory. To also provide first line technical support to laboratory staff particularly in the event of equipment or analysis failure.

¨ Support the Company at meetings with clients in order to give technical advice, and resolve problems. Advise clients on matters relating to analytical procedures, pricing, and specifications. Discuss analytical requirements, and design/development of test methods.

¨ Responsible for the checking and issuing of reports for analytical work. To control, issue and approve all standard and non standard laboratory procedures. Ensure latest standards (ASTM, GB) are purchased, reviewed and changes are highlighted to chemist.

¨ To authorize and review laboratory purchase orders and to ensure that all jobs are priced in accordance with prevailing rate (contract or quoted) to allow correct preparation of invoice.

¨ Develop and train staff to the required levels of expertise and administer division performance appraisal techniques.

¨ Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with BV’s Code of Ethics.

Necessary Skills / Experiences

¨ Degree in Applied Chemistry or related major, with a minimum of years practical Oil & Petrochemicals Industry

¨ Previous experience of running a (medium-sized) petroleum laboratory functions with the last job as a supervisor for minimum 3 years.

¨ Knowledge of ISO 17025 with Internal Auditor certificate.

¨ Established team leader, with strong supervisory skills

¨ Team player with positive attitude to service delivery, quality and customer care.

¨ Ability to recruit, train, manage and motivate staff.

¨ Ability to work under pressure, determine and organize priorities, particularly to meet preset deadlines.

¨ Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface directly with clients, management, employees and other contacts at all levels.

¨ Ability to exercise discretion.

¨ Good English writing, spoken, reading skill and computer skill.
