Job Outline

Centre for Inclusive Finance (CIF) was collaboratively established between University of Nottingham Ningbo China and the People's Bank of China (PBoC) Ningbo Central Sub-branch on March 17, 2016. The Centre is aimed to explore the implementation of pilot project assessment in the Ningbo inclusive finance demonstration area, and to carry out environmental assessment of financial consumer protection. The Assistant Research Fellow will mainly provide research support for the projects related to Centre for Inclusive Finance.

Qualifications

Essential

• Master’ degree in Finance and Economics or equivalent;
• Research skills including data analysis and report writing;
• Knowledge of common University statistics software packages and aptitude for learning new skills;
• Working in an international organization. Evidence of good research skills, e.g., high quality Master dissertation;
• Good time management;
• Attention to details;
• Patience;
• Good problem solving skills;
• Good communicator;
• A team player with integrity who are willing to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment;
• Self-motivated and hardworking.
  

Desirable

• PhD degree in Finance or Economics;
• Evidence of previous statistics skills or training on research. For example: software such as SAS, Stata etc;
• Evidence of professional research and training experience and have excellent research skills, e.g., active participation in large academic research projects resulting in the publication of academic articles and/or books; acknowledgement of able research assistance in published articles or books;
• Excellent time management;
• Strong problem solving skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese;
• Ability to work independently when required.
  

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To work on research projects related to “inclusive finance” with the research team.

More specific activities may include:

• To conduct and co-ordinate sample surveys and to provide training to field interviewers;
• To discuss, design, test, revise and conduct questionnaires of research projects and make appropriate quality control;
• To acquire, validate and use archival data collection;
• To conduct statistical analysis for policy reports and academic papers;
• To make field study and conduct interviews to investigate and evaluate the application of financial inclusion policies in Ningbo and/or outer regions;
• To transcribe and translate interviews whereas the research demands;
• To deliver research as part of a collaborative team and contribute to the achievement of specific research objectives;
• To collaborate in writing papers for submission to journals and conferences and prepare progress reports on the results of research;
• To present the results of research at project progress meetings and at conferences;
• To assist in the co-ordination of the research and related administrative tasks, including liaising with external project collaborators to justify positive feedbacks and providing assistance with supervision of research work;
• To edit monthly newsletter on the topic of inclusive finance to reflect the dynamics of Centre of Inclusive Finance and the development of this industry;
• To participate in training and staff development events as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
• To maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
• To undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
