Job Description

The main purpose of this position is to inspire the businesses, HSE colleagues and other stakeholders in ABB in Spain to achieve excellence in safety.

The successful candidate will be an experienced HSE professional with a strong knowledge of safety in high-risk industry. The candidate needs to be competent and experienced in risk areas such as work at height, road safety, machine safety, electrical safety, etc. They will be able to provide authoritative technical and legal HSE advice within the RA business.

He/she will identify health and safety improvement opportunities and solutions in the businesses and support them in the delivery of those improvements. He/she will travel as necessary to be present onsite to provide coaching as well as conducting inspections and audits; and will be seen as an excellent technical safety partner with whom they will want to work to implement improvements.

He/she will act as the HSE contact for the aforementioned business in Spain.

Your responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical reference point for safety issues across the businesses.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and audits.
  • Identify opportunities for HSE improvement in the businesses; identify appropriate actions; and work with the businesses to implement those actions.
  • Execute specific HSE projects.
  • Give training at all levels.
  • Carry out risk assessments.
  • Lead specific accident investigations
  • Preparation of safety plans.
  • Provide general safety advice to the BU Manager and their teams.

Your background

  • University degree in Engineering or similar.
  • Técnico Superior de Prevención” with the three specialities: Safety, Hygiene & Ergonomics, Applied Psychosociology (Essential).
  • More than 5 years of experience preferred experience in a multinational company in a sector similar to ABB’s, ideally involving manufacturing, project and service activities.
  • Fluent English and Spanish level.
  • Willingness to travel, 20 trips per year or more, mostly within Spain and mostly of 2-3 days in duration.

  • Knowledge of best practices in HSE
  • Technical understanding of engineering and industrial processes
  • Ability to communicate with and influence widely varying audiences from senior managers to service engineers and machine operators.
  • Ability to deliver effective training programmes to all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience in auditing industrial sites and service activities.
  • Understanding of management systems.
