Our department:
Spirit IT is the division of the ABB multinational. We produce products that are mostly used for the automation of oil and gas measurement systems, such as custody transfer metering stations, calibration facilities, crude gathering stations, FPSO's and tank depots. This is done with our Flow-X flowcomputer that handles the measurements of a 'stream' (pipe) and eXlerate, a pure software product that functions at site level.
The development of these products happens by a very international team of engineers, at the moment 7 nationalities amongst the 9 team members.

You will be working on automated regression testing of applications due to changes in Windows and office.

Both the configuration tool for the Flow-X and eXLerate are Excel plugins, where eXLerate must be able run stable for years on 24/7 production systems. As a result we use these products in a non-standard way which is not properly covered in Microsoft's quality control. In the last years Microsoft has changed the way Windows and Excel get updated. Office 365 and Windows 10 are continuous updated with versions being released monthly, instead of a new major version every couple of years.
As we need our software to run reliably and smoothly – eXLerate needs to run 24/7 in production systems with over 86.400 automated calculation triggers per day – we need verify the stability (like memory usage, responsiveness) for every new office release. We want to have an automated test setup with the latest releases of various Windows editions and Office versions and our products. This allows us to put a statement on our website which released we have tested and decree safe. As an extension, we need do those same tests on the pre-release versions (Microsoft insider program) so we will be ahead of the official updates so that we have time to report bugs to Microsoft or come with a solution in our products.
The assignment is to design the test procedures and systems such that our customer are regularly informed of the latest advised host setup while meanwhile also providing feedback to R&D early about upcoming issues.

• Design the procedures and get them integrated

Your background

• You are an enthusiastic and motivated Bachelor- or Master student Software Engineering or Embedded Systems
• You are team player and individual, self-starter with good communication skills
• You are able to write and speak fluent English. This is a must-have for working in a global company, you will be working in a team with 7 nationalities.
