Work with Lead Counsel for Litigation, under the direction of the North America and US Legal & Integrity Territory Head, to set strategy, and retain, manage and direct outside counsel, to achieve timely and effective resolution of legal disputes and lawsuits on behalf of the four ABB Businesses operating in the US and North American territory. Assist in the development and implementation of general litigation strategies, standards and processes to protect the Company against significant risks. Guide and counsel Business representatives to ensure comprehension and coordination of the litigation strategies, standards and processes to facilitate successful operation of the various Businesses. Advise and counsel the Businesses on various legal matters that they encounter in their respective markets to identify potential claim opportunities and mitigate potential claim risks.
Your responsibilities
- Serves as legal counsel for litigation matters primarily in the United States but also Canada, Mexico, Central America and Caribbean countries.
- Assist Business colleagues, Lead Counsel, Litigation and North America and US Legal & Integrity Territory Head in cost-effective and timely resolution of business disputes and lawsuits.
- Ongoing monitoring of applicable laws, regulations and policies.
- Develops, implements and maintains litigation strategy, standards, directives, policies and procedures.
- Provides strategic legal advice to Businesses to identify potential claim opportunities and mitigate potential claim risks.
- Counsel Businesses to protect business reputation and interests and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance on relevant laws and regulations to those drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Act with a high degree of initiative and independence to identify issues and recommend appropriate courses of action.
- Coordinate with Legal colleagues in all Businesses.
Your background
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and bar admission in North Carolina Bar or other State Bar.
- Minimum 10 years of litigation experience, including first-chair trial responsibility, at a law firm.
- Experience handling litigation matter in an in-house setting preferred.
- Significant experience providing legal advice concerning potential claim and dispute identification and resolution for commercial litigation matters.
- Experience with global legal matters preferred.
- Sound legal judgment in developing and implementing legal strategy and solutions.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- A results-oriented professional with strong common sense and superior business acumen.
- Understanding of technical concepts and an interest in technology.
- The ability to be recognized as an independent and respected legal advisor, and ability to work in a complex, matrix structure where cooperation is often gained through influence rather than through direct command.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a significant workload.
- Strong leadership and independent decision-making ability.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to compile and analyze complex regulatory and business information, assess risk, and provide resolutions or recommendations.
