ABB is seeking a Demand OCS Field Service Engineer, responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of ABB products installed at ABB customer facilities, under general supervision. This includes performing maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of our proprietary hardware and software systems; as well as, supporting projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced services such as system performance fingerprints for a variety of industrial processes. The field service technician will be required to work independently or as a member of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB products and/or services. The technician will be supported by his or her service team which consists of; a coordinator to assist with scheduling of work, a regional technical advisor for mentoring and assistance with the most difficult field problems, and an operations manager for direct reporting and personnel issues.

Your responsibilities

  • Handle difficult customer service related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on-site. Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment applying own technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Training on ABB products and services will be provided; however, a basic understanding of process control, electrical safety, and computer systems is assumed.
  • Accurately, and completely document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Reports will be used for customer invoicing and historical record for on-site service.
  • Play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments and to utilize own technical experience to support the project.

Your background

  • Associates Degree and 4+ years of engineering, electronics or process control related work experience.
  • Experience or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments would also be considered.
  • Requires basic understanding of computers and computer networks, including Microsoft Windows based operating systems.
  • Requires decisive actions involving potentially highly complex technical matters to eliminate or minimize adverse impact, ensure quality and operate within budget.
  • Requires strong communication skills, and ability to coordinate activities.
  • Requires ability to adjust to revised priorities and unforeseen problems at customer facilities while meeting tight schedules.
