ABB Inc., in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking for an Mechanical Project Engineer/Technician to join our Robotics and Motion team, the first major global industrial robotics manufacturer to produce robots in the United States. ABB is the leading supplier of industrial robots, modular manufacturing systems and service and has installed more than 250,000 robots worldwide.
Responsibility includes planning, designing, and modifying machinery, equipment and products as well as customer interface and effectively translating project inputs into deliverable documented requirements that meet or exceed all stakeholder project expectations.

Your responsibilities

  • Under general guidance, perform various engineering duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices.
  • Main customer interface on technical issues (mechanical and process focused).
  • Actively plan and lead mechanical project engineering and design activities for respective project. Enforce adherence to established ABB and customer specifications.
  • Actively lead engineering tasks and resources to maintain project schedule and budget requirements.
  • Perform various engineering tasks involving analysis, design, development, test, or installation and service, while working from instructions, drawings, ABB proposals, customer / industry specifications, vendor quotations, ABB standard solution offerings and other pertinent information.
  • Prepare specifications and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.
  • Duties require thorough understanding of standard engineering theories, concepts, principles and techniques. Work is subject to general overview to ensure quality.

Your background

  • Bachelors Degree and 3 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design, OR
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design, OR
  • High School Diploma OR GED and 7 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design.
  • *** Alternatively, this position may be filled at a Senior-level if the applicant meets the following basic qualifications ***
  • Bachelors Degree and 5 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design, OR
  • Associate's Degree and 7 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design, OR
  • High School Diploma OR GED and 9 years of experience in automation, mechanical projects, design.
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Proven track record in the Automation, High Pressure/Deburr Washer or Powertrain Assembly field as a project / process engineer.
  • Design experience with Robotic End of Arm Tools, Powertrain Assembly Machines and Body in White and/or automotive part fixtures.
  • Proven track record in leading cross-function project team which includes internal and external resources.
  • AutoCAD 2014, SolidWorks, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, R&M / Quality training, solid problem solving skills, and career development in the automotive industry.
  • PLM / PDM, Alternative 3D CAD packages, Microsoft Project, and SAP is highly preferred.
  • Open to travel about 20% of the time.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the USA.
