The Role

 

We are looking for a hands-on HR Generalist, with EMEA experience, to own operational HR for the Netherlands and Belgium, managing a team of 4. Working with the Executive, managers and employees as part of an EMEA HR leadership team as a direct report to the Senior Director Human Resources.  The role is located in SDL’s office in Amsterdam and will work closely with local office managers and HR teams to seamlessly execute operational HR in multiple offices in Europe while and ensuring compliance with employment law and best practices. This role will oversee the HR needs and execution throughout the Benelux region.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Own HR operations across multiple sites in Benelux, innovating and driving improvements in all areas of day to day HR operations and administration.
  • With the global HR leadership team continually assess policies and procedures for relevance, and business / legal alignment, redrafting and communicating as appropriate, and helping develop and rollout new polices in the countries of your responsibility.
  • Be an active board member for the Dutch works council, conducting regular meetings
  • Build a strong relationship with the internal client groups, working in conjunction with regional HR across the world and HR centres of excellence.
  • Work closely with our centers of excellence in Talent Acquisition, Global Total Rewards and Talent development to help locally communicate our global HR projects such as career framework, annual salary review process and salary bands.
  • Support other ad-hoc projects in the Netherlands and globally including those related to payroll and HRIS.
  • Consult, coach and advise EMEA wide local HR team members on employee relations issues, actively leading on discipline, grievances, performance, absence management and restructures/redundancies as required.
  • Working closely with managers and colleagues to provide support and guidance on HR issues, global HR processes and changes to employment legislation, including developing and delivering presentations in the form of information sessions, creating template letters, emails and other communications.
  • Assisting with culture transformation including active promotion of “Life at SDL” by having a visible presence in the office and regularly speaking to employees and managers. 
  • Supporting CSR activity and site leader events – helping develop ideas on employee engagement.
  • Drive improvements to data privacy and retention in our HR processes related to GDPR.

 

Key Skills & Experience Requirements:

 

  • Demonstrable experience of HR generalist work in the Netherlands gained with a small to medium business with a focus on the multiple country operations.
  • HR education to bachelor or degree level (desirable)
  • Experience working closely with the Dutch Works Council desirable, though full training will be provided.
  • Experience of managing small teams, mentoring and assisting the personal development of your team members
  • Clear communicator in written and spoken Dutch and English, confident at presenting and experienced at having difficult conversations on sensitive subjects
  • Someone who keeps up to date with changes in Dutch Employment law and best practices
  • Experienced at writing policies and rolling out globally
  • Hands on experience of owning employee relations cases including redundancy consultation processes, protected conversations, capability and performance and disciplinary cases.
  • Strong customer service skills – all employees and managers are our customers
  • Friendly, approachable and empathetic with good listening skills and ability to be a trusted advisor to senior managers.
  • Team player able to build strong relationships across boundaries.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to check the work of others.
