Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives.  This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. 

Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates.

The Clinical Pharmacology, Modeling and Simulation department supports Amgen clinical development and translational sciences programs across multiple therapeutic areas. The department is seeking a graduate student for a summer internship opportunity at Amgen. The internship assignment will be related to core clinical pharmacology activities with specific tasks targeted to answer key development questions and achieve short-term goals for the department. This individual will identify strategies/decision-making used for dose-selection, understand trial designs and recommend dose finding strategy to enable selection of a safe and effective dose, route and regimen for small molecules and biologics by applying the principles of quantitative pharmacology. Specific activities include a systematic review of FDA/BLA/NDA documents, scientific literature search, and gathering and summarizing the collected data. The assignment will span a period of 10-12 weeks concluded with an internal presentation of results of project to CPMS scientific staff and leadership.  

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 

  • 18 years or older
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree concentration(s) in Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline.
  • In at least the third year of current program.
  • Proficiency in modeling software (e. g. R, NONMEM, SAS, PhoenixTM WinNonlin).
  • Interest in analyzing PK/PD and/or clinical trial data using advanced pharmacometric or statistical modeling methodologies.
  • Intellectual curiosity with the ability to rapidly learn new concepts, strong organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
