Job Description

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. (MBUSI) is the production location for the GLE-, GLS-, and the GLE Coupe Sport Utility Vehicles, as well as the C-Class sedan. In 2018, the plant produced more than 235,000 vehicles and our plant has built more than 3 million vehicles in its nearly 20+ years of production in the State of Alabama. In September 2017, Mercedes-Benz Cars announced plans to expand its production footprint in Alabama and the United States with a $1 billion investment for our second campus. The expansion includes construction of a new battery plant to prepare the plant to build electric vehicles at the beginning of the next decade. MBUSI currently employs more than 3,700 Team Members.


Purpose of the Position:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for various assigned projects concerning development, design, construction, and/or installation of electrical systems at MBUSI facilities.


Essential Functions:  (List all basic responsibilities related to the purpose of the position)


Coordinate electrical design and construction of buildings and facilities at MBUSI.
Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient and cost effective approach to solving engineering tasks.
Develop specifications, scope of work, and bid documents for electrical projects.
Assist Purchasing with bidder lists and bid reviews by providing relevant, consolidated data to support the decision-making process.
Review, check and inspect vendor designs and electrical plans to ensure adherence quality standards. 
Perform necessary fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
Responsible to coordinate contractor onsite work and provide clear direction regarding MBUSI requirements and standards as it pertains to facility infrastructure projects. Ensure documentation and CAD standards are followed by contractors.
Coordinate with public utility providers to provide clear direction related to utility infrastructure projects
Develop and track project schedules and costs.
Develop and maintain procedures for all existing building and grounds in collaboration with the Facilities department.
Perform lifecycle analysis and develop long-term plans accordingly.
Provide environmental support to the Facilities department as required to maintain benchmark status.
Lead and control budgets for electrical engineering planning.
Coordinate and interface between MBUSI and MB Germany Production Planning. Ensure integration of corporate standards and best practices from Germany into local MBUSI processes and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education:  Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience
   
Experience: A minimum of 3 (three) years of experience in manufacturing project planning/management and/or construction management
 
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.: 
Solid understanding of industrial power system protection, control and power monitoring
Working knowledge of national electrical code (NEC) and standard for electrical safety in the workplace (NFPA 70E)
Solid understanding of commercial and industrial lighting systems
Solid understanding of facility scope development and costing
Working knowledge of MS Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate presentation (preparation and delivery) skills
Intermediate facilitation and project management skills
 
Preferred Skills: 
Master’s degree
PE License
Working knowledge of Microsoft Project or similar project scheduling program
German language skills
