Job Overview
Under general direction, this position assists in the planning and operations of all production activities for one of the rotating shifts in the various departments; supervising the operations process during the assigned shift rotation assuring that all safety, quality, productivity, cost and human relations functions are performed in a satisfactory and timely manner.
Duties and responsibilities
Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety by understanding and promoting accident prevention and ensuring the safety of all team members. Works closely with Human Resources and the Safety Department to implement MBUSI safety policies and procedures. Teaches and implements the CLEAN +S program in the day-to-day operations.
Ensure that CIP targets are achieved with the help of production planning. Identifies potential quality problems thru P.T. build, PPS build and start up trials. Identifies potential equipment related quality problems during the start-up trials and normal operations. Plan and implement quality programs and checks (PDCA). Adheres to the Quality Departments’ role and responsibilities, target goals in relation to operations. Support continuous improvement opportunities thru analysis of current conditions and follow up as required to assure results are sustained. “Next process is the customer” philosophy.
Identifies bottleneck processes, problem solves and then performs PDCA. Identify and analyze trends, manage system issues and initiate cross-functional countermeasures. Utilization of and analysis of downtime information. Implementation of MBPS. Support of the production function from body and to assembly. Maintain the proper working inventory process. Performs time analysis/continuous improvement activities.
Coordinate production activity in order to meet safety, quality criteria and productivity across the production floor.
Be responsible to increase the level of health and safety throughout the plant by conducting safety audits and promoting safety work.
Manage, motivate and develop Team Members using target agreements and performance appraisals, founded on our mission statement & corporate values, and provision of purposeful internal communications in order to achieve the agreed objectives. Ensure that the necessary training appropriate to the needs of individual employees and the tasks assigned to them is provided. Informing subordinated employees about the relevant provisions and instructing them to comply with the provisions. Ensuring that they are implemented properly.
Plan, agree and manage the budget and headcount in accordance with key performance indicators. Monitor compliance with budget targets, introduce and supervise cost-cutting measures where necessary, in liaison with the line manager, and develop an awareness of costs among staff.
Professional Experience
A minimum of three (3) years' of relevant professional experience in the following area(s):
Engineering, Production, Maintenance or other related role within an automotive manufacturing environment.
For internal placement, candidate must be PV44 qualified or a current E4 (Manager) with a LEAD rating of "successful" or better.
Required skills
"Demonstrated understanding of the quality targets and goals and the ability to ensure that these goals are met.
Understanding of MBUSI safety regulations, policies, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of MBUSI quality targets and goals, including the ""Built-in Process"" and how it is implemented in the specific shop(s).
Ability to learn, teach and implement the Mercedes Production System (MPS).
Demonstrated basic project management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, and to close projects on time.
Ability to effectively manage relationships and peer deliverables to successful project completion.
Be a demonstrated change agent who excels in a team environment, is customer focused and able to consistently meet commitments.
Distinct knowledge of vehicle and over-all knowledge of operations.
Ability to rotate shifts on a two week rotation schedule.
