Eaton’s Energy Automation Solutions Business is currently seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Plymouth, MN location. We are looking for a motivated professional with strong skills in hardware development, a deep understanding of hardware architecture, communication technologies, and good team communication skills. The primary responsibility of the Senior Hardware engineer will be developing intelligent embedded communication and control devices used in the electric power industry. Success in this position requires the ability to work efficiently in multi-site teams, strong motivation for pursuing project objectives and the ability to learn new techniques and development processes. In this function you will: Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle (Concepts, Requirements, Design, Prototype, Testing, Release and Support) following a structured engineering process to ensure quality and reliability Participate digital and analog design, schematic capture, and PCB layout for new products, including CPU/memory/IO/UART/ADC/FPGA/logic circuits and power supply design Integrate digital section with RF section and generate CAM package and conduct signal integrity analysis and design digital circuits using SPICE and other simulation/design software Develop test software for board bring up and design verification, document test plan, test criteria and conduct test for circuitry designed Support and resolve engineering problems found during production and field Collaborate with external and internal customers, such as Product Management, Field Service, Operations and other Engineering teams during the product development life cycle Develop supporting engineering documentation including hardware requirements, design documentation, design verification test plans, and production test/calibration requirements Active communication with the cross functional team to ensure schedule, cost, and performance alignment Provide time/cost inputs to project team Why work at Eaton? Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Syracuse, NY will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future Preferred qualifications: Familiar with PCB design tool such as Altium and test software tool such as LabView Knowledge in smart grid, electrical automation application Experience with RF, control, and low power electronics design Knowledge in manufacturing and product test process Experience with bench test equipment such as oscilloscope, power meter, spectrum analyzer, vector analyzer, logical analyzer, signal generator and communication protocol analyzer Position Criteria: Appreciation for the trade-offs necessary to achieve designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions Strong problem solving and debugging skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently as an individual contributor as well as a team member We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
