Let’s change the world.  The Commercialization Portfolio Management Office (PMO) is responsible for maintaining and improving an ecosystem of processes that facilitates complex cross-functional collaboration, coordination, and portfolio decisions to deliver an innovative pipeline of therapies to our patients.  As part of this mission, we are building a next generation integrated portfolio planning, reporting, and decision-making capability known as Mercury.  We are in the early phases of rolling out this new capability and, in this vital role, you would work with a broad range of functional partners to drive its growth and deliver on the long-term vision. 

The Sr. Project Manager will report into the Project Management Director within the Commercialization PMO located at Amgen’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks California.  We are open to discussing location or remote work arrangements; however, co-location at Amgen’s headquarters is preferred due to the global and highly collaborative nature of this role.

Responsibilities of the Senior Project Manager includes:

  • Lead development of business processes and tools, in partnership with cross functional team members, to optimize the Mercury operating model
  • Provide thought leadership into process improvement and adoption strategies by developing a deep understanding of Commercialization processes and the voice of the customer
  • Find opportunities to generate insights and grow the Mercury capability
  • Collaborate closely with user community to use existing and develop new capabilities to drive delivery of value
  • Enrich knowledge library by documenting case studies, success stories, and other lessons learned
  • Develop and disseminate communications
  • Act as a sounding board / advisor to the Product Owner on key activities and issues
  • Serve as an extension of the Product Owner to manage interdependencies, identify alignments, and develop partnerships with other corporate initiatives
  • Apply a structured change management methodology to ensure adoption of new processes, experience, and tools

  • Experience in process improvement, organizational change, and executive level communications
  • Independent, motivated, team member highly effective navigating a matrix environment
  • Ability to motivate and influence without direct authority to complete tasks and meet timelines
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence
  • Ability to move from a strategic level to a tactical/operational level
  • Strong understanding of the drug development process and key milestones
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within the organization to understand business objectives and priorities
  • Be a self-starter with a proactive attitude to anticipate customer needs and be consultative to formulate or propose solutions 

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Relevant experience
OR
Master’s degree and 4 years of Relevant experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Relevant experience
OR
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Relevant experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or strong demonstration of equivalent combination of relevant educational and professional training experience in leading cross-functional teams
  • Industry experience in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or other Healthcare-related field
  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of other functions relevant to the position which may include: Research, Preclinical, Clinical, Manufacturing, Commercial and Regulatory
  • Knowledge management skills with experience curating lessons learned and establishing connections between knowledge seekers and useable information
  • Program and project management skills with experience operationalizing central initiatives, including cross-functional strategic planning, development of integrated plans, monitoring and driving execution to plan
  • Well versed in social media and tool usage, preferably with experience in driving end to end marketing/branding campaigns
