Job Description

We are looking to add a Business Development Manager to our Business Development Team.  You will be responsible for business development with government agencies (such as funders, societies, associations, etc.), universities, research institutions and corporates within the business scopes of Taylor & Francis and report to Business Development Director of Taylor & Francis China. You will be an important member of the team in helping us deliver support for both internal and external stakeholders by developing and maintaining strategic customer relationships with relevant bodies and researchers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Identify and execute strategic activity projects under direction of Business Development Director of T&F China and other related leaders.
  • Have insights on new national and local policies of science, technology, education, economy, and society, and put forth solutions to find strategic opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain stable and healthy relationships with the external stakeholders from government agencies (such as funders, societies, associations, etc.), universities, research institutions and corporates, and drive cooperation opportunities from them to the internal stakeholders.
  • Seek out new potentials of T&F’s products and services, and search for partnerships from external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (including the sales, marketing, editorial and content commissioning staff of journals and books) to achieve annual targets and support long-term business development within the region.
  • Give oral briefing weekly to Business Development Director of T&F China on work progress.
  • Make a written report monthly to Business Development Director of T&F China on work progress: Wins, misses, challenges, and suggestions.
  • Comply with T&F’s business regulations and policies as well as professional ethics.
  • Actively liaise with other stakeholder departments to enhance T&F's coverage in the region.
  • Continually develop the T&F brands and profiles, building increasing awareness across the region by making presence externally through various channels

Qualifications

What we're looking for: 

  • Experience in servicing researchers in scientific community and Experience in selling services to hospitals, state-owned and private research labs, and government agencies.
  • Experience of governmental or institutional relations at national, provincial or city level.
  • Ability to find cooperation opportunities from enterprises, universities, institutions, government agencies (such as societies, associations, and funders), etc.
  • Ability to grasp the characteristics and working mechanisms of different types of customers in China.
  • Ability to make strategic analysis, judgments, and decisions, independently and collaboratively.
  • Considerable knowledge of the academic publishing industry and the wider scholarly eco-system.
  • Positive and flexible attitudes, willing to take on different types of tasks with the same level of effort and expertise.
  • Willingness to travel across provinces occasionally to meet customers, join conferences and organize activities, as required to achieve objectives.
  • Demand-driven thinking skills and working approaches.
  • Ability for oral and written expression in both Chinese and English.
  • Bachelor or master qualification.
