Job Description

You will be responsible for delivering translations of the highest quality and accuracy, on time and within budget. You will act as lead translator for large and complex projects and accounts, performing tasks such as planning and managing the work of in-house and freelance translators, taking responsibility for required QA work such as review, and providing linguistic support to your project manager. Reporting to the Translation Line Manager or Translation Manager, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining the highest standards of linguistic and organisational excellence for the translation team. You will actively mentor members of the translation team, to ensure their continuous improvement and skills progression.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence – Coordinates and secures external freelancers to work on translation projects based on detailed requirements. Negotiates rates with freelancers based on standard rates and instructions from his/her manager and Supply Chain. Communicates frequently with manager and team regarding requirements, availability, standard/median rates, and scheduling. Ensures a high level of accuracy in the vendor database by working with supply chain to update essential information (e.g., booking information, availability, contact info, skills, rates/discounts, performance history.) Supports project activities such as file analysis and preparation, sending prepared information to freelance translators.

Delivers Quality, Value, Results – Ensures that projects are staffed with the highest quality external resources to meet deadlines and budget (e.g., advanced scheduling, monitoring availability, ensuring engagement with newly recruited resources, matching skills to requirements, rate negotiation.) Alerts manager and team to potential resourcing issues (e.g., scheduling conflicts, unique/difficult skill requirements.)

Functional Excellence – Applies learnings from past projects to improve quality and efficiency. Identifies improvements to the process in order to enhance quality and results. Actively develops skills and competencies to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team.

Relationship Building – Builds strong relationships with team members by actively contributing to team projects, taking initiative, communicating effectively, and demonstrating a commitment to achieving customer results. Builds positive and professional relationships with external vendors/freelancers.

Differentials

  • Tech-savvy: Office package, CAT Tools (advanced knowledge in SDL Trados Studio is also a plus)
  • Previous experience with localization project coordination or linguistic coordination
