Responsible for the recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational risk factors that may cause sickness, impaired health, or injury among the employees and / or citizens of the community, Conducts qualitative and quantitative risk assessment of workplace conditions, Liaison to appropriate regulatory agencies, Responds to customer and / or client requests or events, and Develops solutions to problems utilizing formal education and professional judgment.
JOB DESCRIPTION - INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE
Essential duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to,
a) Compliance. Understand and ensure compliance with Federal, State and local EHS regulatory requirements and Intel specs / standards. Keep abreast of new or updated laws, rules and regulations and take appropriate actions to ensure timely compliance and communication to appropriate departments. Complete all relevant required training based on roles (RSO, LSO, asbestos etc.)
b) Risk Assessment. Conduct quantitative and qualitative IH exposure assessments such as indoor air quality, noise, radiation, chemical and ensure / validate the effectiveness of identified controls to maintain workplace conditions follow work environment monitoring as required by law and Intel standards. Complete periodic assessments of program health and formulate action plans to support continuous improvement of IH programs (self-assessments, compliance audits, conduct training and train the trainer sessions, perform predictive analysis of monitoring results trends and, ensure proper recordkeeping etc.)
c) Chemical Approval
- Review and approve all chemical use requests in support of process technology development activities including components research.
- Perform regulatory and toxicity assessments of all requested chemicals to determine use restrictions (i.e., determine carcinogenicity potential, reproductive toxicity, highly toxic materials, ozone depleting substance, Hazardous Air Pollutants, Volatile Organic Compounds, etc.).
- Facilitate the process to assess potential environmental impacts of requested chemical use.
- Ensure requested chemical use follows the Intel Chemical Use Guideline and the Intel Restricted Chemical Use List.
- Determine and document EHS controls necessary to safely handle and process requested chemicals including PPE requirements, ventilation requirements, storage requirements and waste disposal requirements
d) External Influence and Technical Leadership
- Partner with industry associations to influence EHS regulations and standards that may impact technology development and building/tool design (SEMI, ICC, USGBC).
- Collaborate with key external groups (universities, industry associations, research consortiums) to drive EHS technology solutions for high volume manufacturing processes (ISMI, SEMATECH, ITRS, SRC / ERC).
- Liaise with external agencies / authorities / municipalities etc. in order to build a strong partnership and oversee scheduled inspections or response to relevant authorities.
- Represent Intel at external conferences, workshops, events etc.
e) Respond to employee EHS questions and concerns, providing guidance on incident / injury investigations as needed.
f) Participate in working joint forums and associated chartered teams / cross site projects as required.
g) Collaborate with site management, site stakeholders, and / or Corporate EHS to integrate IH programs in the business operations or where its needed to drive performance improvements.
h) Support local regulatory and Intel specific training where necessary to Intel employees and contingent workers as needed.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should possess the below minimum qualifications and exhibit the following behavioral traits,
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biological, Physical Science or Occupational Health and Safety with minimum of 3-5 years work experience in Industrial Hygiene. A Certified Industrial Hygiene (CAIH / CIH) certification is the most preferred.
- 5+ years of IH experience in a high-tech Electronics / Semiconductor manufacturing and / or tech development environment / large scale multinational corporation or company
- Good understanding of the Malaysia regulatory requirements, exposure to regulatory authorities / permit process and related ecosystem
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, great attention to detail, extensive familiarity with the scientific method of gathering / analyzing data and ability to manage / prioritize multiple projects at a time
- Is passionate about service excellence and has a proven track record in providing innovative and cost-efficient solutions that ensures a world class working environment.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, basic knowledge of local vernacular language
