JadeClass is an English-language training center based in Shanghai that is fully-licensed by the Shanghai Education Commission. We provide enrichment education to bright Chinese students who plan on attending university abroad. Our students vary in age from 6-16 and are carefully screened for English level, behavior, and motivation. We select only the most motivated students and help them achieve success not just in testing but also in adapting to a Western-style learning environment—a process we have been perfecting since our founding in 2008.
Our current program offerings include small-group classes in ESL, literature, creative writing, science, mathematics, social studies, and history.
We are seeking talented educators to collaborate with our existing team of teachers and curriculum designers. In particular, this person will have experience teaching kindergarten and primary-level students.
Job Description
Teach ESL/English classes from JadeClass materials
• Maximum class size of 6 students
• Classes are 1.5 to 2 hours in length
• Semesters align with the Shanghai school system with additional Summer Reading Camps
• Classes are highly interactive with students evaluated in part on their participation
• Compensation is after-tax and is based on hours taught
All of our lesson materials are provided, so our part-time teachers are not responsible for any lesson planning. All grading is performed by our full-time teachers and support staff.
School Schedule
During the spring and fall semesters, we adhere to the following schedule except when government-required rescheduling occurs:
• Friday evening classes available from 16:00-20:00
• Saturday classes available from 8:00-20:00
• Sunday classes available from 8:00-20:00
During our 6-week summer session, our teaching shifts to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00-20:00.
Note: Part-time teachers must be available for at least one entire day (8 hours) each weekend throughout the semester. Part-time schedules can be adjusted from semester to semester to accommodate the teacher’s changing schedule.
Compensation
• A competitive after-tax rate of 275-350 per hour of teaching
• You can teach as little as 4 days/month and get up to 11,200 RMB
• Lunch provided on all full teaching days
Applicant Requirements
Required:
• Must be in Shanghai
• Must hold a working or student visa
• At least 1 year of prior teaching experience
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Familiarity with common teaching methods and an insight into how students learn
• Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time management skills
• Positive attitude with an ability to receive criticism and adapt to new methodologies
Preferred:
• Native English speaker
• TEFL/TESOL certification
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in ESL/English
• Licensed teacher
• 2+ years of experience teaching ESL/English
