A Level Design & Technology Teacher


Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and innovative A Level Design & Technology Teacher to join our dynamic bilingual learning community in Shanghai. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching across Key Stages 4 and 5, inspiring students to develop creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities in both English and Chinese learning environments.


Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver engaging lessons in A Level Design & Technology, aligned with international curricula (e.g. Cambridge/Edexcel)
* Teach across a range of DT disciplines, such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering
* Develop schemes of work and assessment materials that support progression and attainment
* Prepare students for A Level examinations, coursework, and NEA (Non-Exam Assessment) components
* Integrate modern design tools and technologies (e.g. CAD/CAM, 3D printing, laser cutting) into teaching
* Maintain a safe, well-organised workshop environment in line with health and safety standards
* Assess, record, and report on student progress regularly
* Support students’ university applications, particularly for design, engineering, or architecture pathways
* Contribute to the wider school community, including extracurricular clubs, competitions, and school events
* Collaborate with bilingual colleagues to support students’ academic language development

Person Specification

Essential

* Bachelor’s degree in Design & Technology, Engineering, or a related field
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
* Experience teaching A Level Design & Technology
* Strong subject knowledge across design processes, materials, and manufacturing techniques
* Excellent classroom management and communication skills
* Ability to teach in English to a high academic standard

Desirable

* Experience in an international or bilingual school setting
* Familiarity with Cambridge or Edexcel A Level specifications
* Experience supporting EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners
* Knowledge of emerging technologies (e.g. robotics, digital fabrication)
* Basic Mandarin skills (not essential but advantageous)
