Job Description

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic Drama Teacher to teach A Level Drama and Theatre Studies and IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Theatre at an international school in Shanghai.

The successful candidate will inspire students through both the academic and practical elements of theatre, supporting their development as performers, directors, and theatre-makers while preparing them for international examinations and university pathways.

Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching A Level Drama and Theatre Studies and/or IB Diploma Programme Theatre to high school students.
• Planning and delivering engaging lessons that combine theory, performance, and creative practice.
• Preparing students for external examinations, coursework, and assessed performances.
• Directing and producing school theatre productions and performance showcases.
• Supporting students in developing skills in acting, devising, directing, and theatre analysis.
• Assessing student work and providing constructive feedback to support progress.
• Contributing to curriculum development within the performing arts department.
• Participating in departmental meetings, school events, and professional development activities.
• Supporting students with university applications related to theatre, performing arts, and creative disciplines where appropriate.
• Contributing to the wider life of the school through extracurricular activities and performances.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related subject.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
• Experience teaching A Level Drama and/or IB Diploma Programme Theatre.
• Strong knowledge of theatre practice, performance, and theatre theory.
• Experience directing student performances or theatre productions.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to supporting students’ creative and academic development.

Desirable:

• Experience working in an international school environment.
• Experience with IB Theatre coursework and assessment processes.
• Ability to contribute to school productions, festivals, and extracurricular drama programmes.
