Job Overview
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) bridge the critical gap between the human driver and the increasingly computer controlled vehicles they operate. ADAS increases efficiency across all aspects of vehicle control spanning systems from fuel management to collision mitigation. This job is for a Mechatronics Engineer within the ADAS and Camera Systems Team and will be involved in bringing new ADAS and imaging based technology to production commercial vehicles that are safe, reliable, serviceable, and competitive.
Mechatronics Engineering at Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is one of the three pillars of design engineering along with Cabin Engineering and Chassis Engineering. Mechatronics is responsible for electro-mechanical integration, control electronics, and all vehicle software. The ADAS and Camera Systems Team reports to the director of Safety Stability and Powernet (SSP) within Mechatronics Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Expanding engineering competency in camera, video, and associated telematics systems: End-to-end from light captured by the camera lens all the way to the video played on the web portal.
- Managing close relationships with third-party video service providers to gain deep knowledge of their products to optimize vehicle integration and customer experience.
- Integration of existing and new video service processor (VSP) and mirror camera systems (MCS) across various commercial vehicle product lines.
- Configuration management including complete documentation releases to support various parallel program schedules
- Working with product validation engineering (PVE) to validate performance and release new features to mass market
- Improve competitive market position by keeping abreast of state of the art developments in the commercial vehicle industry and applying knowledge to new designs. Feature management from initial specification to completion integration with all dependent modules and components
- Close collaboration with the global Daimler ADAS and PVE teams for leading feature development and to promote technology transfer and adaptation
- Model and analyze performance of ADAS systems across a variety of vehicle platforms using both internal and external resources
- Analyze and provide creative, technically feasible solutions to challenges encountered in validation and production. Promptly resolve plant build issues.
- Demonstrate good judgment when working with suppliers, Purchasing, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, Marketing, and other departments in the product development and testing phases.
- Work cross-functionally across the engineering organization not only in Mechatronics but also in Vehicle Cab, Vehicle Chassis, and Information Technology groups. Lead implementation of cross-functional ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, processes as well as product cost and quality.
- Lead and mentor other engineers, designers, students, and interns in engineering processes and methods and in the identification and resolution of the root cause of complex problems.
