Job Description

Intelligent Systems Research Lab (ISR) focuses on augmenting human capabilities and experiences by understanding practices in everyday life and developing AI algorithms, systems and solutions to enable disruptive applications. We are a multi-disciplinary lab that brings together skills in social science, design, AI and computational imaging. We tackle pain points in current AI systems including accuracy, computational efficiency, generalizability to new domains, training data size and explainability. We build technologies to enable true collaboration between humans and AI in smart spaces and robotics and develop workloads like computational imaging, video understanding, multi-modal conversational agents, Deep RL and graph neural networks that can establish performance advantages for Intel platforms.

ISR is looking for a research intern with experience in responsible AI and Human/AI collaboration. In this position you will have the opportunity to conduct independent research on building responsible AI technologies focused on fairness, transparency and explainability in the context of real world settings. This research will inform our corporate wide responsible AI effort, enable internal and external teams to develop AI responsibility and impact our tools and solutions. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team across social science, HCI and AI.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and conduct research on Responsible AI and/or Human-Centered AI, including ML, health, education, HCI, and other interdisciplinary fields.
  • Collaborate with the Responsible AI advisory council to take some of this research to practice and with other product groups to across Intel to enable our tools with these capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in ISR and IL to advance the research and conduct real world experiments and validation of the research.
  • Publish and present novel research findings in top academic venues; engage with the academic community.

This is an internship position and compensation will be given accordingly.


Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experiences listed may be obtained through academic coursework or projects, prior internships, or comparable industry roles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any related field.

 

6+ months of experience on below areas:

  • Research related to Human-Centered AI, Human AI collaboration, ML, HCI, and related interdisciplinary research topics.
  • Research and publications in Responsible AI including interpretability, explain ability and fairness.
  • Deep Learning, Multimodal Artificial Intelligence, Interpretable Machine Learning
  • Python and/or C++ languages, and Linux OS



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of black-box Model Interpretability techniques for explaining model predictions
  • Research related to Sustainability of AI models, training with limited data, active learning and continual learning.
  • 1+ publications in the following areas : AI FATE (e.g., FAccT), AI/ML (e.g., NeurIps, ICML, CVPR, etc.), or HCI (e.g., CHI, UIST, UbiComp, etc.).
  • Research related to multi-modal machine learning including vision, audio, biological signals, text.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques such as Few Shot Learning, Meta Learning, Adversarial Learning, Probabilistic methods, Model Adaptation and Personalization methods.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, Colorado:
$52,000.00-$147,000.00

Work Model for this Role

This role is available as fully home-based and generally would require you to attend Intel sites only occasionally based on business need.
