PPD is a top,
global CRO with a strategic priority to invest, grow and lead in the China
market. This is an excellent opportunity to join us as Account Director, Business
Development – strategic accounts, to help us further build and strengthen our
strategic client relationship within China and the Asia Pacific region. PPD-China
opened in 2003, and includes our full scope of CRO services, across 20
departments. PPD’s primary offices are in Beijing and Shanghai and we have an
ongoing, rapid expansion plan for our team and overall China footprint.

As China
becomes an increasingly important market for big Global Pharma and Biotech
companies, it is essential to build and maintain strong relationships with the
local China entities and decision-makers of these companies. This pivotal role will be responsible for
leading these business development and relationship management activities with
the China affiliates of the top tier global pharmaceutical companies, several
of which are strategic partners of PPD.

There will be a
high degree of autonomy in this role as PPD’s leader in China for these key
accounts, and the opportunity to develop and lead a local BD team as PPD
continue to expand. The remit for the
role, although heavily focused on China, will likely also extend to other
neighbouring APAC countries. This role
will work closely with our Global strategic account teams to ensure we have a
consistent strategy and communications with these key clients and will report
into the APAC Executive Director for Strategic Partnerships.

For this role, PPD
is looking for a proactive, strategically thinking Business Development
Director or experienced pharmaceutical or CRO industry professional having held
roles with a significant component of relationship building, relationship
management and strategic leadership. Excellent knowledge and existing
relationships within the China pharmaceutical sector will be a significant plus.

This
role will sit within PPD’s Global Business Development team and will be fully
supported by cross-functional regional and global teams to develop and respond
to client opportunities and RFPs. A
close working relationship with PPD’s China operational leads will be important
and provide an important additional resource for helping to engage clients,
build trust & credibility and develop new business opportunities.

Requirements Include

Bachelor’s degree in science or business, or equivalent combination of
education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform the job.
Substantial sales or business relationship experience in a CRO,
Pharmaceutical, Med Device or Biotech environment
A proven track record at mid and high-level business contacts
The ability to build relationships and fully integrate with internal
functions such as Operations, Finance, Bids & Contracts, and Medical
and follow-up to expand relationships and business opportunities.
The ability to identify and develop sales leads, professionally
present capabilities, manage the sales process through to close and handle
all aspects of contract negotiations.
The ability to build strong bid defense teams, can organize and coach
people to win in competitive situations
Ideally will have an established network of contacts within the
Pharmaceutical industries
Excellent spoken and written English, and Mandarin.

This position can be based in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Singapore.
