This position is primarily responsible for providing the local expertise and support of fixed assets accounting, support accounting to the Supervisor -Accounting services. The Accountant is expected to work closely with the FSS, BPO, COE and Supervisor to work through the financial close process to produce financial statements in accordance with AbbVie’s policies and procedures, US and CDN GAAP. Activities include, but not limited to: Key Responsibilities General accounting: Participate in the financial close process; prepare accruals journal entries requisitions for SM&M, Medical, Business IT, HR, Operations, Legal, Finance or other various department needs Prepare Fixed Assets accounting, tagging, coordinating cycle counts, additions and disposals. Assist any Benefits accounting such as Blue Cross, payroll Local Entity accounting (local books CAD GAAP) To assist in the completion of the Sarbanes Oxley yearly documentation and testing requirements. Maintaining the signing authority log in accordance with AbbVie policy. Intercompany billing, accounts, and reconciliations Other activities: Preparation of various government statistical reports. Qualifications Education/Experience required Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus, CPA, CA/CGA/CMA designation 2-3 years of experience Experience with SAP (a plus) Knowledge of local GAAP, internal controls, SOX and financial reporting. Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, Very good interpersonal and communication skills Bilingual – English/French Essential Skills & Abilities Systems SAP & Accounting Systems Microsoft Office - intermediate to advanced level Business Knowledge SOX policy Intercompany transaction policy Fixed asset accounting policy Project accounting policy Signing authority policy Accounting policies Business Process, Corporate Policy (compliance & completeness) Technical Knowledge Intermediate accounting. Intermediate to understanding of internal controls including SOX.
