Position Summary:
This is a job opening wherein the selected candidate will join Thermo Fisher Scientific in the role – Accounting Manager, Shared Services (described below) and will also be part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific’s LEAD program. The candidate will remain in this role as part of the first rotation of the LEAD program for approximately 1 year after commencement of the program (program commences in July 2020).

This is a 3-year program, consisting of a 2-year local (Singapore) rotation and a 1-year international (Shanghai) rotation.

This position is a highly strategic and facilitative one that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role. This role achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing actions plans; implementing production; completing audits; identifying trends; determining systems improvements; and implementing changes.
Responsibilities:
- Review policies and procedures to propose best practices to standardize and enhance accounting (AP/AR/GL) processes and/or workflow.
- Control and review of reporting and analysis functions, relating to:
- SEATW Monthly and Quarterly Business Review (MBR and QBR), including preparation of performance dashboards and scorecards for accounting analysis
- Weekly reporting
- Driving Working Capital Performance
- Accounting Forecasts
- Accomplish accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Lead and drive projects to:
- Improve current accounting processes to improve team productivity
- Tap on RPA, Macros and other tools to reduce manual inputs and intervention for accounting processes
- Other accounting tasks include but not limited to:
- Reviewing monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting packages
- Reviewing SAB104 for revenue recognition, and ensuring that transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with policies in the proper accounting periods
- Reviewing monthly reports and analysis
- Managing various audits
- Other ad-hoc duties as required and/or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Candidates should hold an Accounting qualification (Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy)
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting functions (e.g. Accounts Receivable), of which 3 years have to be in a managerial capacity
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially in MS Word and Excel, and in ERP systems (i.e. SAP)
- Meticulous, and able to work independently
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be a good team player and leader, and most importantly willing to learn
- Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve desired results
- Collaborative and positive attitude with desire to work in a demanding, fast paced, and dynamic work environment
- Own the Customer, Internal customer-centric, demonstrates a sense of urgency, contagious optimism and a “can do” attitude
