We are looking for a qualified and experienced Action Unit Manager for Greenpeace East Asia Program Department. The scope of the work:
The Action Unit Manager is primarily responsible for managing action coordinators in Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong, and assigns staff to carry out action tasks in specific projects. S/He demonstrates considerable independence and initiative and provides leadership for the planning, development, and implementation of program-wide action strategy, as well as developing action capacity in Korea, Taiwan & Hong Kong. S/he will prepare, monitor and controls Action Unit team expenses and budget. In addition, the Action unit manager provides direction and guidance to external consultants and temporary staff, as required.
Job responsibilities:
- Advise senior management in the Program Department and provide leadership and strategic direction for the use of NVDA in campaign projects, in response to internal needs, external trends, and the legal, political, and cultural conditions that may affect the use of action tactics in specific regions.
- Develop and implement effective actions, activities, and events to support campaign goals. Ensure effective risk assessment and management is carried out in relation to non-violent direct actions
- Lead, motivate, and manage staff in line with the organizational aims and objectives to ensure effective staff performance and that staff development, training, and performance reviews take place. Recruit, cultivate, and manage activists.
- Allocate staff to projects and provide knowledge-based guidance to the design and implementation of action tasks in projects. Coordinate staff capacity and action tasks according to agreed program priorities.
- Liaise with other Greenpeace offices and Greenpeace International for action-related issues.
- Keep abreast of useful information, resources, equipment, tools, technical and technological development in related fields, to ensure action capacity is up-to-date
- Ensure that appropriate planning protocol, safety, and security procedures related to action and rapid response are in place and followed by staff, activists, and contractors.
Requirements:
- Fully understand and respect the local context, culture difference, and regional political tension in the East Asia region, and utilize it for fitted action design.
- Possess sensibility and experience in risk assessment and critical incident management. Possess the ability to think and respond rapidly to critical external challenge/ opportunities/ situations.
- Innovative out of box thinking, experience in the innovation industry, and cutting edge technology. Knowledge of trends and opportunities in creative non-violent confrontation
- At least 4 years of experience in project planning/ management, including budget control, staff allocation, external/ internal communication, etc.
- At least 3 years experience as a manager or relevant managerial role
- Proficient in English is required, and Korean/ Chinese/ Cantonese will be a plus
Preferred Qualification:
- At least 3 years of work / hands-on experience in related fields (NGOs, activist/advocacy groups, event management, logistics, creative industry) and experience in social action is highly preferred
- Experience in working in a culturally diverse workplace.
