Overview

The British Primary Section of Taipei European School is looking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated Additional Learning Needs Teacher to join our primary team.

Responsibilities

  • ensure that the needs of all identified pupils are met and that they are supported to make good progress
  • offer practical support and advice to class teachers, enabling them to offer high quality provision
  • offer support and advice to learning support assistants,
  • ensuring that pupils identified with a need are supported
  • support and advise parents
Principal professional responsibilities:
  • maintaining precise data on identified pupils
  • supporting the organisation of Learning Plans (Individual Education Plans) and meeting with teachers and support staff each term (frequently) to establish targets and review progress
Work in partnership with parents and external service providers
  • working alongside the Leadership Team to maintain and monitor high quality intervention programs
  • supporting the professional development of staff by delivering continuing professional development sessions on aspects of additional learning needs
  • teaching individuals and small groups of pupils with ALN who require very specific, targeted additional provision and ensuring they achieve success
  • purchasing resources
Teachers must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of Taipei European School, and maintain high standards in their own attendance and punctuality.
Teachers must have an understanding of, and always act within, the policies and procedures which set out their professional duties and responsibilities at Taipei European School.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher status
  • Some additional professional development in special educational needs

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

  • Experience of teaching across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with evidence of having achieved successful pupil outcomes
  • Knowledge and understanding of how children learn
  • A sound grasp of the concept of inclusive practice
  • Good knowledge of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice
  • Experience of working closely with parents in successful home-school partnerships that supports pupils’ needs
  • Knowledge of issues relating to equal opportunities; multi-cultural education and personal and social education
  • Some knowledge and experience of using basic diagnostic tests
  • Knowledge of current educational issues.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Skilled at making and sustaining positive relationships with children
  • Able to stimulate children’s interest in learning
  • Able to work closely with pupils who are finding learning difficult
  • Able to work closely with other adults, offering them practical advice and strategies that assist them to overcome problems relating to the teaching of pupils with special educational needs
  • Skilled at developing children’s self-esteem and motivation so that they become resilient, independent learners
  • Capable of planning intervention work, assessing the needs and achievements of children and maintaining appropriate records
  • Able to work closely with members of the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 teams, and the wider school community, in the development of the provision for pupils and the curriculum as a whole
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
