Eaton’s Aerospace division is currently seeking an Additive Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to join our team. This position will be based out of our North Charleston, SC office. Relocation is available for candidates currently located in the United States. Position Overview: Additive Manufacturing (AM) is an exciting new technology that offers substantial benefits to the aerospace industry. The Eaton Aerospace AM team has successfully deployed the technology into the Aerospace global product engineering teams working on 15 programs with commercial awards on six different components spanning commercial and military aircraft original equipment (OE), as well as, space and military aftermarket. The team launched and continues to expand and operate an Aerospace dedicated Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence in the Charleston, SC facility with the latest Additive Manufacturing technologies for aluminum, titanium, inconel and stainless-steel printing. The Aerospace Additive Manufacturing Center focuses on rapidly developing processes, fully characterizing materials and the development and qualification of new Additive Manufacturing applications. This role will be in the Additive Manufacturing Center and would be focused on the development of AM metal printing processes, post print processing and inspection for a variety of different metal processes. The candidate would be responsible for leading the effort to develop these processes including AM print parameter optimization, capability studies, machine qualification, part qualification and related specifications. The role would also work with the engineering teams to ensure designs are optimized for a given Additive Manufacturing printing process so that Eaton can maximize the value of the effort. The individual must have a strong innovative manufacturing engineering acumen with significant metal experience and will be the leader for all things Additive Manufacturing process related. The role also needs to educate the teams designing and building the parts to ensure the capability of Additive Manufacturing is maximized to increase the value proposition in the areas of speed, cost and performance. The role will work closely with the Additive Manufacturing Applications Engineering Specialists, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams. In this function you will: Develop new Additive Manufacturing processes and materials. Use Design of Experiment (DOE) methods to guide development in the most efficient way possible to define the process parameters and the impacts each has on the product. Perform experiments demonstrating the capability and repeatability of the Additive Manufacturing process, materials produced and end part dimension and material properties. Development of the after-printing surface finish processes, traditional machining, and inspection along with new approaches for powder and support removal. Inspection methods will include traditional techniques along with unique technologies specifically design for AM, including insitu monitoring. Build cost models and capital plans associated with the various postprocessing techniques to enable the applications, design and operations teams to evaluate alternative concepts and share the potential options with customers. Work with the Aerospace Charleston Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (CoE), the Eaton Research Lab, the additive Centers of Excellence in both Southfield, Michigan and Pune, India and external partners to develop new methods required to accelerate the pace of qualifying new AM processes develop and commercialize identified targets. Lead internal/external innovation workshops to identify potential game changing processes, AM designs and post-processing solutions to strengthen the business case for AM. Develop the strategy, roadmap and execution plan for new Additive Manufacturing printing, post processing and inspection technologies. Define the plan to accelerate the deployment of digital design and digital manufacturing. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Materials Science (i.e. metallurgy) from an accredited institution. Minimum of five (5) years of design and/or manufacturing engineering experience Minimum of three (3) years’ experience developing metal additive manufacturing processes Due to the nature of the projects and customers supported in this role, candidates must hold US Citizenship status at the time of application Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.
