About the Team

Airbnb is hiring an Advocacy Associate to join the well-established Advocacy & Policy Media team within the Public Policy department.

The Advocacy team at Airbnb is the rapid response, political activation, and policy advocacy team within Public Policy, dedicated to engaging our host and guest community in the regulatory conversation around short-term rentals. The Advocacy team maintains an integrated approach to organizing, utilizing both digital tactics and proven best practices of low-touch community organizing, to inspire our hosts and guests to take political action. The Advocacy team operates in sync with Public Policy stakeholders to influence active legislation, connect our community with lawmakers, drive strategic partnerships and federal initiatives, and support broader department priorities.

About the Role

Advocacy Associates will draft, develop and execute integrated community activation plans and programs to support policy objectives. Associates will primarily use digital tools to engage, recruit, and inform the Airbnb community to drive political actions in response to active or developing legislation. Associates will mobilize Airbnb community members  through a variety of digital channels, including web, email, social media, and video conferencing. In addition, Associates will also be responsible for advocacy-related content production, execution and management.

Associates will be responsible for email and other in-product communications, community engagement on social media platforms, advocacy campaign content production via third-party organizing tools, transactional messaging to support regulatory requirements, content monitoring, and production of other various advocacy-related web and multimedia content as needed. Associates will create content for advocacy-based activations, including posts for Facebook groups and social media ads with calls to action, materials for hosts to use and share, and call scripts for vendors. Associates will provide data insights and analysis of campaigns/content on a regular basis. 

Associates will also engage in limited relational organizing with leaders of Host clubs and organizations to maximize the impact of our community in public forums and conversations with lawmakers. Associates will serve as liaisons between host leaders and campaign teams. Associates will develop materials and hold webinars to educateHosts on policy issues, civic engagement, and media relations. Additionally, Associates will own and manage community story repositories, and channel community feedback and insights to various internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in community organizing within political campaigns, technology companies, or grassroots organizations
  • Personal integrity that reflects Airbnb’s core values and commitment to diversity and belonging
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in various aspects of grassroots advocacy, including digital organizing, community mobilization, volunteer recruitment, leadership development, and training facilitation
  • Experience writing and basic knowledge about producing digital content (particularly email and social media) and other written materials for advocacy or issue-based campaigns
  • Experience with some of the following types of apps and tools: grassroots organizing systems/political campaign management tools, CMS, CRM, email marketing tools, social media management tools and ad platforms, design programs, cloud productivity apps (e.g. Google Workspace apps), virtual conference apps, project management tools (e.g. Asana)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external teams and stakeholders
  • Creative mindset with the ability to problem solve, manage multiple concurrent projects, and work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders in a, fast-paced environment

What You’ll Do

  • Work with Regional Advocacy Managers, Campaign Managers, and Policy Associates to implement organizing strategies and tactics to accomplish the specific policy and electoral goals of your assigned regional team(s) 
  • Execute all day-to-day organizing needs and communicate regularly and often with assigned local team(s)
  • Develop and execute digital advocacy plans and campaigns using tools such as Salesforce, Phone2Action, Mixmax, Taxi, social media management tools, Splashthat, and others
  • Ideate, write, produce, and deploy outbound communications (including email) to activate, engage and/or inform our community

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute digital advocacy campaigns 
    • Facilitate host<>lawmaker contact and lobbying
    • Use tools to collect and identify compelling community stories to leverage in paid media campaigns or Comms initiatives
    • Coordinate with third-party host groups for advocacy needs
    • Use internal and third party tools to execute digital advocacy campaigns
    • Constantly iterating and optimizing campaigns based on performance and data analysis 
    • Develop community-facing resources and plan and community policy-focused events and trainings relevant to policy objectives
  • Develop and execute social media promotion campaigns for Public Policy:
    • Develop promotion strategy, write copy, build ad targeting, design or compile creative assets, stage ads using Opal, and monitor campaigns using Facebook Business Manager, Twitter Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and others
    • Work closely with Community team to ideate, produce and distribute public policy content in Host Facebook Groups
  • Assist with day-to-day content creation as assigned
    • Find creative, meaningful ways to identify and amplify compelling community stories on owned, earned and paid channels
    • Support local campaign teams by executing various digital advocacy campaigns, such as
      • Conducting community interviews and developing editorial content for various platforms
      • Building advocacy campaigns to encourage hosts to take action (emailing lawmakers, signing petitions, attending in-person/online events, complying with short-term rental regulations, and more)
      • Thinking of creative ways to engage with the Airbnb community
    • Track and manage internal content approvals 
  • Execute time-sensitive requests; and navigate Airbnb work stream processes and policies
  • Maintain high level of professionalism and flexibility to support a wide variety of department goals and initiatives
