YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Agronomic Solutions Scientist II, are to: 

 

  • Plan and direct the technical selection and development of compounds in experimental stages to meet EPA and state requirements, PMRA requirements and coordinates with Early Development, Registrations, HuSa, EnSa, Formulations, Project Management, Market Development and Marketing the incumbent is recognized internally and externally as an expert source in a technical discipline or product area and with a proven record of technical accomplishments and expertise is recognized where sphere of influence to direct regional development of assigned products and be part of the global development process;
  • Determine the appropriate pest spectrum controlled, crops, rates, formulation, application methods and timings and strategies for product labels;
  • Structure label language to allow for maximum flexibility in exploiting regulatory limitations of competitors;
  • Develop product use instructions and expansions, tailored solutions within crops and support products in close cooperation with Agronomic Operations and Market Development;
  • Develop innovative programs that maximize resource efficiencies and expedite the registration process;
  • Explore novel application techniques and anticipate unique product performance opportunities based on detailed understanding of biological, physical and chemical attributes;
  • Serve as a core Asset Team and/or Project Team member to advise on overall planning of development programs, registration needs and marketing strategies in close cooperation with global development teams;
  • Have an influence leadership on project team;
  • Provide strategic direction in biological positioning of new products;
  • Provide expertise within the scope of 1-2 disciplines across multiple asset teams and other internal groups;
  • Maintain university and scientific community contacts to ensure good relationship for BCS interests;
  • Maintain active status in professional societies and industry groups and make technical presentations;
  • Serve as BCS representative on multi-company committees chartered to address general issues of the crop health industry;
  • Manage administration and distribution of grant in aid, product samples and other resources to facilitate field testing programs;
  • Manage product performance data for summaries, analysis, recommendations, storage and retrieval including preparation of final annual report summarizing test results and providing recommendations for future testing for assigned products;
  • Maintain active knowledge of industry trends and developments and provide input to guide screening and early development programs;
  • Project potential areas of concern based on basic product technical attributes and develops effective strategies for product defense needs;
  • Collaborate with Market Development on knowledge transfer, compile and prepare data for technical product information;
  • Contribute to product launch teams through coordination with Market Development.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. in an Agricultural Science or related Biological Science with at least three years of relevant experience OR M.S. with at least five years of relevant experience;
  • Ability to understand technical details in unrelated disciplines and extensive knowledge of agriculture and field-testing techniques (in the NA region primarily), including the use of BCS products and North America requirements for registration of pesticides, this knowledge is necessary in order to conduct proper testing for compounds as well as to lead in setting priorities and choosing resources in the development plan;
  • Ability to design, conduct and interpret complex scientific experiments, develop and implement research proposals, author scientific reports and communicate findings;
  • Can apply defined scientific principles to solve complex scientific problems;
  • Exploit new developments from scientific literature to aid in problem solving;
  • Assume project leadership;
  • A broad understanding of and contribution to, marketing approaches and techniques;
  • Solve complex technical challenges with minimal guidance from team lead;
  • Independently plan development program based on general team direction;
  • Can adjust and react quickly to changing priorities in a variety of situations;
  • Builds business case that demonstrate the potential of new innovation;
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to use various software programs, including Microsoft Office, SCOUT (ARM), SWATT and an aptitude for data manipulation;
  • Interpersonal skills are extremely important for interfacing with other Bayer U.S. personnel, University, State and subordinate personnel;
  • Proven leadership and team member skills, as well as language and communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Degree and/or specialized training in Weed Science.
