Job Description

The Digital Safety Team is a new team within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs division whose vision is to empower every person to have safer digital experiences. The team’s primary objectives are to:

  • Shape global policy and emerging legal frameworks related to digital safety by engaging with industry, government, and civil society
  • Mitigate digital risk by enabling Microsoft's compliance with legal obligations and voluntary commitments to remove or otherwise manage illegal and harmful online content
  • Integrate safety by design into Microsoft product and services by engaging with engineering and business groups  

We are seeking a data and technology-oriented Business Analytics Specialist to join our team to help strengthen our digital safety initiatives.

 

Drawing on a blend of skills in data insights and analytics, program/product management, project management, communication, technical and soft skills, this individual will be working with cross-company teams to operationalize business processes and drive the development and use of technologies aimed at detecting and removing harmful content on our services.

 

As an experienced Business Analytics Specialist you will help deliver on our external commitments for transparency reporting on our content moderation efforts, and can simplify the data and create and deliver insights for our internal operational needs. You would have a proven track record of successfully building and supporting robust data, reporting and insights platform/solutions to support complex business scenarios while leveraging the latest Microsoft technologies. You would lead the efforts to drive telemetry requirements and governance across services, driving rationalization and simplification of business logic. You would establish processes, communications, requirements gathering and release management for internal dashboards and ensure data availability and accuracy for external reporting. You would help foster a data-driven culture, and encourage and enable the team and our partners to make more informed decisions. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage data to identify business insights and influence change with stakeholders
  • Use outstanding program management, analytical skills, cross-functional thinking, business judgment, strategic thinking, and technical acumen to help drive digital safety initiatives across Microsoft 
  • Collaborate effectively and inclusively with partner teams and data system owners to define data requirements, uncover potential telemetry gaps and gather and drive requirements and remediation plans into tooling and product engineering teams
  • Lead the efforts to rationalize and simplify business logic
  • Establish program controls, scorecards and reporting mechanisms to monitor and report on digital safety initiatives across Microsoft product/services
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve platform and data related issues impacting both internal dashboards and external reporting
  • Drive effective governance across stakeholders, engineering and tools teams.
    Develop, foster, and maintain effective working relationships with partner teams to deliver key business metrics
  • Act as an evangelist and catalyst for digital safety, effectively communicating the operational and cultural activities for the Digital Safety team

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as data analyst, business analyst or program manager in leading initiatives to build and support data platforms
  • 3+ years of experience supporting BI & analytics solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in deploying and operating data systems for broad/diverse audiences
  • Proven data evaluation skills, with ability to extract and interpret data
  • BA/BS in operations, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or other technical/quantitative discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience delivering data solutions via Agile and/or DevOps methodologies
  • Proficient in SQL, Excel, and Business Intelligence tools (Power BI preferred)
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking skills, and communication skills
  • Azure and Big Data experience highly valued
  • Machine Learning and statistical modeling preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft data assets/systems preferred
