Job Summary As a Field Applications Engineer, you will provide technical support and select suitable protection solutions to key strategic customers within the High Speed Product line area, comprising of new product development, custom design iterations, and application service activities. Job Responsibilities Plan and execute technical application projects by generating technical proposals and documentation to support specific and customized applications. Offer technical support to key functions within the organization including Sales, Product Managers and Engineers and also external customers. Communicate technology trends and market feedback derived from customer queries to the High Speed Product Manager Cooperate with assigned OEM design departments on new applications and provide accurate technical answers to enquiries from customers, distributors, or sales personnel for their own or customer information Propose and specify new product extensions within and outside the Eaton’s Bussmann established fuse design range to meet OEM key accounts future needs for high-end solutions. Maintain personal contact and establish important rapports with OEM Engineers to secure continuing and growing market acceptance of Eaton’s Bussmann semi-conductor products Work closely with selected Key Accounts to detect technical trends, including developments in applications and equipment requiring High Speed Fuses. Relay information to Product Management and NPD functions Coordinate high and low power product testing as required Provide technical training and product familiarization to internal teams and external customers Support development of customized products for specific customer applications. Coordinate among customers, design engineers, sales, product management teams to delivery concept through design and development to long term manufacture. Lead and become a recognised 'expert' in High Speed Fuse applications within the following sectors: Hybrid Electric Vehicles & Support Infrastructure, Marine & Rail, Renewables & Energy Storage and Power Conversion systems Support key initiatives to expand the product portfolio outside of over current protection product groups such as supercapacitors, smart fuses and wireless technology. Work closely with the Global Engineering team to standardize on systems and processes to allow effective collaboration across all engineering groups Responsibility for the maintenance of product literature, including printed and electronic formats. Support and develop programs and promotional activities to strengthen market position for sustained product lines as directed by the Product Manager. The Field Applications Engineer supports daily technical mailbox enquires and phone calls. May offer commercial and engineering proposals to Product Management and the engineering lead to allow them to make decisions based on sound analytical evaluation of an investment opportunity. The Field Applications Engineer has a general understanding of current company manufacturing technologies and relies on manufacturing engineering to stay abreast of the latest technologies. The Field Applications Engineer has frequent contact with the Eaton’s sales team, customer service team, product management and engineering. The Field Applications Engineer has a responsibility to build and maintain an established rapport with external customers. The Field Applications Engineer must be able to understand and implement customization requests. The Field Applications Engineer will spend time researching complex applications in parallel to the approach of his/her daily tasks and activities The Field Applications Engineer will create and facilitate Engineering change notifications (ECN) related to the High Speed Fuse product line through to completion Qualifications Qualifications Education level required: Degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Physics. Years and area of experience required: Previous experience with technical support or in electrical environment would be desirable but not essential. Customer facing experience and commercial mindset is desirable, but not essential. Customer requirements capture and project leadership experience is desirable University graduates will be considered. Technical knowledge: Overview of agency standards, code requirements, industry practices and present product performance capabilities. Basic understanding of markets and customers and works with the Product Management and the sales team to support technical challenges. Soft skills: Excellent communication skills, good time management and self-motivation are essential.
