Eaton’s Electrical Services & Systems team is currently seeking a Application Engineer – Power Systems Controls, to join our team. This position may be based remotely. Position Overview: The Application Engineer - Power Systems Controls will drive growth of the PSC business by developing technical solutions, cost estimates, and detailed proposals for power management systems with automatic transfer schemes or generator paralleling controls. Typical project scope includes engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and testing for new construction and retrofit applications. This role leads the front-end process, from Request for Proposal (RFP) through order entry and transition to the project execution team. The successful candidate will have the technical expertise and commercial savviness to build customer confidence and deliver high quality proposals to support this rapidly growing business. In this function you will: Review RFP’s and interpret customer plans and specifications Develop technical solutions utilizing a variety of industry leading manufacturers of PLC’s, HMI’s, protective relays, synchronization relays, and power monitors Estimate project costs, prepare proposals, review customer terms & conditions, and negotiate favorable project conditions Build strong connections with the Eaton sales force to improve coordination and maximize opportunities to grow the PSC business Ensure that all bid documents are properly stored and organized Assist with order entry and transition to PSC project managers and engineers Maintain metrics and reporting to guide PSC quoting strategy Contribute to the standardization of work processes, tools, and templates for PSC quotations Develop materials and clearly communicate PSC product line offerings to Eaton sales force, third party representatives, channel partners, and customers Pursue professional development in areas of growing market opportunity Work occasional evenings or weekends if necessary, to satisfy bid due dates When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution Minimum 5 years of engineering, field service, manufacturing, or project management experience with electrical power distribution systems Minimum 2 years of electrical industry related proposal generation or application engineering experience Experience with switchgear automation solutions involving multiple sources (i.e. Main-Tie-Main, Main-Tie-Main-Gen, Main-Gen-Tie-Gen-Main, etc.), PLC’s, HMI’s, Substation Gateways / Real Time Automation Controllers, multi-function protective relays, and generator paralleling switchgear controls Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future. Preferred qualifications: 10+ years of experience with electrical power distribution systems; 5+ years of proposal generation or application engineering Hands-on programming and testing experience with PLC’s & HMI’s from multiple manufacturers Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution Outside field service sales experience Position Criteria: Successfully complete and maintain compliance with the company’s safety program Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license Technical expertise to develop PSC solutions independently Produces high quality proposals with professional appearance Creates cost estimates with attention to detail, including written basis & assumptions Strong customer focus; responsive communication Manages own workload and adjusts to changing priorities Strong financial acumen and strategic mindset Builds customer and stakeholder confidence through excellent presentation abilities Strong computer skills within the Microsoft Office suit (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.) Collaborates with peers to support continuous improvement and standardization Pursues continuous learning to strengthen technical and commercial skillsets Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices. The annual salary range for this role is $96,000 – 132,000, and is eligible for a performance-based Sales Incentive Plan with a target at 15% of base.
