Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Application Technology Expert, are to: 

 

  • Support the development of new and existing active ingredients and their core formulations regarding all aspects of Application Technology to develop core AT recommendations for the Bayer portfolio and for business relevant technical tools and advocate for their implementation together with the global community;
  • Advocate for the needs of the customer, grower, and consumer of applied agricultural products;
  • Guide the Application Technology Manager and their team through grower needs, industry activities, competitor innovations, market/regulatory changes, and customer pain;
  • Steer the Application Technology Manager’s prioritization with industry relevant knowledge;
  • Organize training concepts of Application Technology in relevant markets for internal and external customer in close collaboration with the responsible business functions;
  • Help protect the value of products and other work product clear definitions of expected delivery and timeline must be agreed negotiated and set for the implementation in defined customer, crops, and indications;
  • Consult on concise strategies and develop tactics with clear guidance on priorities to drive the required design of experiments and data generation;
  • Coordinate and oversee technology scouting within R&D, manage methodologies and content of workflows, maintain and develop portfolio to leverage synergies;
  • Review the development and transfer of new innovative approaches in Application Technology to the Field Solutions community, and use external trends and developments to challenge internal ways of working and thinking in close alignment with project and platform functions;
  • Collaborate with Bayer Crop Science R&D (Formulation Technology and Biologics) and the external scientific world to lead the organization out of its "comfort zone" and open a window to new ways of thinking and approaching scientific challenges;
  • Support the application of novel state-of-the-art methods and technologies in pilot projects together with functions from across R&D; realize tangible value creation, ensure communication of learnings and successes and establish the application of such approaches within R&D;
  • Contribute to integration of cutting-edge workflows and applications to capture, process, and analyze data to build understanding and recommendations;
  • Maintain a smooth and productive interface to adjacent business and technical stakeholders; collaborate with external companies, such as implement manufacturers.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience in Agronomy, Engineering, Chemistry, or other related field; OR
  • M.S. with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in Agronomy, Engineering, Chemistry, or other related field; OR
  • B.S. with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in Agronomy, Engineering, Chemistry, or other related field;
  • Excellent communication and influential leadership skills;
  • Have an appetite to connect to and discuss collaboratively;
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written;
  • Good scientific background and working knowledge of the crop protection industry, in applied agricultural sciences or related sciences;
  • Broad functional knowledge about crops and global crop cultivation practices for foliar applications and basic technical understanding for their underlying scientific principles;
  • Basic understanding on grower’s needs;
  • Ability to constantly update the understanding of grower’s needs;
  • Ability to analytically assess and diagnose problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks;
  • Agility to adapt to changes and operate in ambiguity;
  • Out-of-the box mindset to open up new routes off the beaten path;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in an international and dynamic research & development team;
  • Ability to develop, discuss and implement strategies together with managers, commercial sales, marketing, and scientists;
  • Experiences and capacity to understand and contribute to advanced technical topics;
  • Ability to constantly update the understanding of grower’s needs and combine them with opportunities offered by the equipment industry;
  • The ability to incorporate the value of new technologies and relevant legislative changes into the development strategy for existing and new products.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Basic skills in other languages (French, Spanish etc.).
