High Level Function and Role Overview

The purpose of the Messaging Service Architect role is to ensure our workforce has the right Messaging services and solutions to meet their requirements, all of which must work seamlessly and continue to be current and relevant to the business.  

This role is responsible for the architecture, strategy and development of our Messaging services, working closely with other Service Architects, Service Leads and Operations Leads across the End User Services portfolio and the application and infrastructure teams to ensure the technology life cycle is managed effectively, working closely with the Technology Innovation team on new services and pilots, as well as with the Customer Effectiveness Team to ensure new services and upgrades are introduced effectively to support our business. This Service Architect will also work closely with the Cyber security and Infrastructure team to ensure services are secure and optimized.

The Messaging Service Architect role:

• Responsible for the Architecture, Strategy, Roadmap, Design and Lifecycle definition of our Messaging services, ensuring they are current and meet the needs of the business.  These services include eMail (Exchange and Exchange Online), eMail security & hygiene, chat & instant messaging and O365 tenant management processes
• Enable and govern the seamless and compliant delivery of new technologies and services to meet business demand
• Govern the upgrades and compatibility of mobile devices to ensure seamless upgrades to the business and new functionality and capabilities are introduced effectively
• Simplify the environment so our technology is current and delivers a great customer experience
• Responsible for the management, prioritization and execution of demand
• Engages with key Stakeholders and Customers to ensure these technologies meet customer needs.
• Manages our technology partners effectively to ensure that our services are optimized and cost effective
• Reports to the End User Devices Architecture Lead.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for the architecture, strategy, road-map and engineering of our Messaging services, working with key Stakeholders to ensure new capabilities and tools are prioritized and delivered effectively   
• Participate as a member of strong technical teams to deliver the right technology services to the business to deliver a great customer experience across these services
• Architecture governance for the Messaging portfolio to ensure all our technology solutions are designed and implemented to work seamlessly with our applications and infrastructure to deliver a great customer experience.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Critical Experience

• Significant IT experience in designing and delivering global IT services
• Significant experience in designing and delivering Messaging services – including eMail, O365, eMail security & hygiene, chat & IM, email archive
• Significant experience in the management and delivery of large scale, complex technology services road-maps
• Must have experience in managing enterprise architecture and engineering teams with a successful track record in driving technology and organisational transformation and simplification through robust architecture governance
• Must have held a Domain Architect role in large enterprise organisation
• Must have managed global teams

Skills

• Strong technical understanding of Messaging technology and supporting services:
  • eMail routing (SMTP, Exchange, Exchange Online)
  • O365 the Authentication types (Basic/Modern)
  • MSFT Azure AD Connect works
  • Exchange Hybrid configurations
  • Office 365 Domain and Tenant migrations
• Strong Stakeholder Management
• Strong Supplier and Vendor Management
• Good technical understanding and naturally driven to leverage technology to digitise and optimise our business appropriately
• Good understanding of Messaging technologies and emerging trends.
• Ability to create the right vision, strategy, and roadmap and implement effectively, taking people with them.
• Experience of developing and enhancing global Services across international sites and a dispersed team
• Familiarity of working in an international, multi-time zone support environment.
• Strong People, Team Leadership and Management skills, with demonstrable evidence of creating high performing teams and delivering operational excellence.
• Natural ability to continually challenge and drive change in pursuit of excellent customer service. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Operationally and politically astute and tenacious, being able to cut through issues to deliver excellent customer service.
