Job Description

Duties:

  • To arrange and assist in current museum educational projects and assist in exhibition-related special programmes
  • To assist in developing, coordinating, organising and implementing museum activities or programmes, such as talks, workshop, demonstration, children’s programmes, forums, symposiums, field trips, etc., in relation to exhibition themes or annual festivals
  • To lobby with various community groups, non-profit organisations, schools or any other visitor groups to join our various museum programmes
  • To liaise with schools, colleges and teachers to promote the activities of the museum in line with the school curriculum
  • To coordinate programmes for the annual MuseTeens Scheme and special activities to complement the specific theme of the year
  • To identity and arrange suitable speakers, demonstrators or guests to host or deliver talks, workshops, demonstrations, forums, symposiums, field trips, etc
  • To hold activities for children and families, youths and general public when required
  • To assist in writing up and editing texts and captions for exhibition, pamphlets, newsletters, website update, education kits, worksheets, publicity materials, panels for lending services, etc
  • To proof-read a large quantities of documents, graphic panels and captions, as well as educational materials such as pamphlets, multimedia information and catalogue for exhibitions
  • To conduct research, assist in gathering data, assembling, organising and compiling research information for use in exhibition and education projects, and to write simple reports
  • To assist in retrieval, photo-taking, taking measurement and recording details of artefacts and exhibits
  • To perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers

Requirements:

  • Second Honor Degree or above from a Hong Kong University, or equivalent, Major in Fine Art, Visual Art, Arts Educations, English, Chinese, Translation, Cultural Studies, or Museology
  • At least 18-months of full-time working experience, in which at least twelve (12) months full-time working experience in museum or other cultural organisation, responsible for assisting in arts and extension projects, previous work experience in museum arts education would be an advantage
  • Excellent command in oral and written Chinese and English (Grade C or above in Chinese and English Language in HKCEE, or Leave 3 in Chinese and English Language in HKDSE, or equivalent) and good command of Putonghua
  • Solid computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, and Chinese word processing
  • Capable to handle translation (English and Chinese) and creative writing
  • Fast and accurate typing skills, both Chinese and English
  • Strong oral and written communication, research and time management skills
  • Must be attentive to details and well-organised
  • Able to work independently and systematically
  • Patient, careful, responsible manners, good presentation and customer service skills
  • Great interest in art, art education and cultural-related subjects
  • Knowledge about local art and culture, as well as history would be advantage
  • Capable to arrange and conduct art-related education programmes independently; and
  • Good skills in general photography; skills in illustration by hands or computer graphic design would be an advantage but not a must
