The Department of Visual Studies (VS) at Lingnan University offers a multi-disciplinary course of study, focusing on three core disciplines: art history, film studies and philosophical aesthetics. The VS curriculum emphasises the history, theory and philosophy of visual arts and culture in Asia and beyond, together with experiential, object-based and skill-based learning through fieldtrips, studio practice, curatorial training and . VS internshipsadmits about 30 undergraduate majors and a small number of MPhil and PhD students per academic year. Launched in 2006, the Artist-in-Residence Programme brings students into contact with a range of art and film practitioners with expertise in multiple areas, such as filmmaking, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography and new media. A considerable number of artists from Hong Kong and abroad were invited to teach studio arts for undergraduate students, provide consultation, give public talks and organise exhibitions or film screenings together with Lingnan students. General Requirements

Applicants should have an MFA degree or related qualifications and strong track records of creative practice, art projects and international awards. They should also have a passion for nurturing students’ interest in visual and media arts. Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. Candidates who have some experience of teaching in higher education and can provide evidence of high-quality teaching are of particular interest. During the period of residency, 16 August to 31 December 2020, the visiting artist will teach a 3-credit studio course in his/her area of expertise, deliver public talk(s), develop new project(s) and supervise students to produce works for inclusion in a group exhibition or a film screening. The visiting artist is also expected to make use of the Jonathan KS Choi Art Studio at the University as the primary site for artistic production and class consultation.

 

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, and mandatory provident fund. On-campus accommodation will be provided, as appropriate. A large, light multi-purpose Art Studio suitable for ceramics, painting and other kinds of artistic production will also be provided. The Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery of Lingnan University, among other venues, is available to showcase completed works.
