The China Assistant Controller is a key member of the International Controllership team which is responsible for maintaining and driving controllership rigor and discipline across multiple entities in China. This role reports directly to China Controller and is based in Shanghai, China. This role will be responsible for finance governance, regulatory and statutory compliance for China domestic business. This role will partner closely with multiple stakeholders in product, marketing, tax, treasury, and the regional business teams in building processes and controls to support new products and initiatives launched in China.

  • Work closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure controllership oversight for China organic and new product planning
  • Work closely with technical accounting group to ensure consistent application of accounting policies
  • Preparation of monthly financials and analytics to support a structured risk-based monthly management review
  • Prepare quarterly financials and analytics for senior management reviews
  • Drive account reconciliations rigor including follow up and closure of open items 
  • Liaise with tax to ensure timely tax filings and ensure tax queries are closed on time
  • Timely completion of statutory audits for China entities
  • Review business processes to improve/strengthen internal controls and track remediation of control deficiencies 

Desired Skills and Experience

Basic requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • CPA or CA qualification is a pre-requisite
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, China GAAP and IFRS
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in accounting with at least 4-5 of experience in external audit work with a CPA firm
  • Experience with audit procedures and SOX compliance requirements
  • Prior working experience in the financial industry preferred
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office software tools, especially advanced MS excel skills
  • Familiar with use of SAP and BW tools preferred

Essential

  • Familiar with local statutory audit, tax returns and filing process in China
  • Strong accounting analysis skills with experience handling multiple currencies, FX revaluation, group consolidation, valuation, hedge accounting, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of ERP system and accounting processes in AP, IC, FA and GL
  • Some knowledge in indirect tax, corporate income tax and transfer pricing
  • Ability to understand complex tax and legal entity structures
  • Ability to effectively present financial information to management in a clear and concise manner
  • Good business partnering skills and ability to work with remote stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Strong change agent

  • Ability to document work processes, procedures and policies
