Function

Successful incumbent to maintain the financial records of the Hotel and to effectively administer the Finance Office staff.  The successful incumbent will be responsible for the timely month end process and submission of all reports. To maintain and ensure all Finance Standard Operating Procedures are in effect and to assist the Director of Finance in the efficient operation of the Finance Department.

 

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 3-year Accounting or Related degree
  • At least 5 years' accounts experience, previous hotel experience advantageous
  • Proficient in Excel;  experience in SAP will be an advantage, OPERA, MICROS & MATERIALS CONTROL
  • Good communication and report writing ability
  • Be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • To follow up on queries/reconciling items and action where necessary
  • The ability to manage the Finance team and work without supervision
  • Flexibility re working hours /Month end week end /Overtime
  • Flexibility to work over weekends, public holidays and after hours when required

 

Key Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Finance Departments – working very closely in line with creditors, debtors, income auditor, revenue clerk, payroll clerk and cashier – to ensure all work/queries are correct and recons completed
  • Ensure that Starwood Policies and Procedures are applied and adhered to at all times (PCI compliance/ Confidentiality/Finance Code of Ethics/Anti-Corruption). 
  • Doing cashbook / bank statement reconciliation on a daily basis, also preparing and posting all monthly journals and closing off by the 1st working day – ensuring all provisions/accruals are done.
  • Statutory returns PAYE and VAT completion
  • Responsible for timeously month end reporting – send departmental P&L reports after month end, assisting in compiling variance reports for reporting to owners and managing company (Starwood).
  • Ensure correct and timely Balance Sheet Reconciliations with relevant back up and Cross Referencing
  • Train, mentor and develop Accounting Team to ensure strong 2nd and 3rd line Associates.
  • Responsible for Finance performance appraisal reviews.
  • Ensuring payment made to Starwood Hotels by 10th of each month. 
  • Assisting with budget preparation and monthly forecasting
  • Preparation and assistance for Internal and External Audits and Peer Reviews. 
  • Assisting in coding AP invoices and Forex payments
  • Monthly Capex invoice to HPF
  • Acting as DOF in his/her absence
  • Co Signatory for all payments when DOF not available
  • Approval of Online Orders
  • Stock take verification
  • Load Spa debit orders and 5% Transfer FFE  account Monthly
  • Any other relevant task as required from time to time due to Operational/Financial requirements
